The Evil Nuisance of the Nyophite
The nyophites think when they have read a book they are king. How little do they dream of what real study is in its decades.

Why do you say that neophytes are evil?TheVisionofEr wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 7:07 pm The nyophites think when they have read a book they are king. How little do they dream of what real study is in its decades.
Are there not a lot of people who imagine themselves as educated/wise/knowing experts who distort ideas for their own self-serving purposes? Wouldn't that be more evil than someone who simply thinks they know more than they do?

It's irritating when an undergrad reads Kant and assumes whatever strikes them is the objective reading. Those of us with decades experience are helpless victims of their presumption and stupidity. The whole world is filled with beginners who despise those who know almost infinitely more than they do. The beginners are the masses who Ortega observed. The revenge on intelligence by the ignorant and stupid is the leading blight of the world.Lacewing wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 7:32 pmWhy do you say that neophytes are evil?TheVisionofEr wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 7:07 pm The nyophites think when they have read a book they are king. But that would suggest that the ignorant and stupid are intelligently discerning and responding... and that doesn't seem to make sense.TheVisionofEr wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 4:25 pm The revenge on intelligence by the ignorant and stupid is the leading blight of the world.
Rather, there's just a lot of mindlessness, and it's not plotted.
Perhaps it may actually inspire (in others) even greater forms of intelligence to deal with it.

No. It is about the omega power of stupidity. The intelligent are always in the minority.

Enforcing conformity to correct spelling? We simply comment on what each other claims and whether they seem credible to claim it. And you seem to like making claims about intelligence.
What is your first language?
Is "infinite idiocy" really possible?

Even by standard dogma, infinite can express the significance: indefinate. But, also, it can mean the most extreme superlative state.Lacewing wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 5:57 pmYou're funny.TheVisionofEr wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 4:04 pmStupid people tend be inforcers of that conformity to the infinite idiocy. Fixing the meaning in advance is that sophitry which flees from the hominem.

In my experience, I think there's a tendency for neophytes of philosophy to often become overly enamored with the subject, which is not necessarily a bad thing as it lends to the intensity of one's study of it.TheVisionofEr wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 7:07 pm The nyophites think when they have read a book they are king. I'm certainly not an expert on philosophy but I've studied a fair bit of it and pondered it a great deal throughout my life. I'm always fascinated by how much I've forgotten of what I learned and of how little real importance philosophy ultimately is compared to other more pragmatic fields of knowledge (such as agriculture for a very stark example). It always astounds me how little real advantage the study of philosophy seems to have afforded me. I mean, I still make stupid mistakes. I still suffer from things like sadness or anxiety as much as anyone else (if not more so in some cases). And there are people out there who seem to be very well ordered mentally who haven't studied a lick of formal philosophy. I've met a few such people in my life and it always impresses me.
