Wisdom vs science or philosophy
Science or philosophy contain the idea of wisdom, which is the knowledge of the human good. However, when science / philosophy give power to the supposed idea of a fact, in contradistinction to a supposed value, wisdom is wiped form the shimmering window of science or philosophy. And this means, the overt or principled claim (in contradistinction to the political and popular claims) of science or philosophy to be good for human life. This situation is slightly concealed by the general apathy and by the charismatic ghost of the power of the idea of Progress which still produces an apathetic optimism in a great many thinking persons of the older generations (usually as linked with some vague idea of a "rationalism" linked to former days [as of the French encyclipedists or of the philosophes] and their enthusiasms and correspondingly no longer valid).
