Is there a choice?: Science or not Science?

Although it is said that Stadtluft macht frei, that the city air makes one free, all modern air is visible in the light of the sciences. To be modern is to breath according to this light. And to be contemporary is to be modestly critical of the air of one's being.

Is the measure of science* the positive good that it does? "Good" implies good for human beings.

*Whether humans should do science or not.
