You aren't supposed to be "amazed".jayjacobus wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 11:29 pm The computer technolgy is roughly equevalent to a back hoe.

You are supposed to recognize that we don't have it under control. Even today. When the technology is still relatively simple and pretty dumb by human standards.
That doesn't speak ill of the technology (which will continue to become more sophisticated and more capable). It speaks ill of our own, human (in?)abilities to guarantee the technology is safe.
We are intellectual infants playing with fire.

Artificial intelligence - Have you ever seen how a computer shows off by using it's super "intellligence" to WOW you with words?
"bus", "cache", "chip", "cookie","database", "dot pitch", "download", "file", "firewall", "folder", fragmentation", "freeware", "gopher", "hardware", "interface", "keyboard shortcuts", "mouse", "network", "operating system", "plug and play", "software", "spam", "upload", and "URL"
And when on a website does "your" computer give you sensible choices? But choice is an illusion. You have no choice except to give up and do something else.
PNC, linked, thinkorswim, Avast, IObit and many more.

They are the laws of nature. Physicalists have an artificially narrow view of realityowl of Minerva wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 2:50 pm If consciousness is an attribute of the action of the senses and is invisible, non-physical, and non-dual then the senses have surpassed the laws of nature.

Descartes said, "I think therefore I am" but how does he know if I think?
