Interesting footnote to the discussion on abortion and sex-selection.

Last night, a friend of mine gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The thing is, the ultrasound technician told her some time ago that it was a girl. So until last night, she and her husband were expecting a girl.

If they had "sex-selected" an abortion, it's not just that a little girl would have died. It would have been this little boy. But I wonder if the abortionist would have fessed up to the actual outcome. And I can't help but wonder how many baby boys are killed in the mistaken belief that they were going to be girls.

Just a footnote, as I say. Good thing these were real parents, not baby murderers. This little boy has his life because his mother is a real mother. And this mother has her baby boy only because she was just as willing to have a baby girl.

And if anyone was so shallow as to be desperate for one particular gender then they would more than likely go for a more invasive but accurate test.

That's the most pathetic 'argument' you've come up with yet. Your 'friends' were obviously in a position to be able to bring up a child. Everyone's circumstances are different. You really are a judgemental little tosser for someone who likes to let everyone know what a pious little kristian man he is.
Are you against contraception in general? After all, every time a woman has a period she's 'murdering a potential human'. Or do you think there is something mystical and magical about a fertilised egg? Perhaps women should be forced to be continuously pregnant--like dairy cows. I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem with funding their offspring through life.
What about IVF? You've been awfully quiet about that. Unwanted viable IVF embryos get flushed away by the thousands.

It matters not at all what you or I thinks; it matters what's actually true.

The answers to all these questions are identical -- do not do harm to anyone, whether it's a "person" as you may recognize him/her, or a person of whom you are not sure, or one whom you are failing to recognize as a "person."

But if you'll concede the abortion case, I'll happily discuss any other associated cases with you. Until then, it's quite obvious you're not interested in the other issues, only in excusing abortion.

Give me a break. You aren't just talking about third trimester abortions. You are a dishonest little weasel. The percentage of abortions that occur after twenty weeks is tiny and third trimester even less. It's hardly something that women are going to get done on a whim. Abortions that happen after the 20th week are typically a medical necessity, and third-trimester abortions are due to severe health danger for the mother or the foetus--hardly 'evil'. Third trimester 'abortions' (actually inductions) are so rare that they don't even show up in statistics. Your ridiculous use of religiously charged words like 'evil' and 'immoral' render your scurrilous 'argument' void (along with the fact that you are a male, don't actually give a damn about the embryo's of random strangers, and couldn't give a flying rat's arse about all the embryos flushed away at IVF clinics etc. etc.).
Who are you or I to judge someone who has an induction for urgent medical reasons? Even second term abortions are only a tiny minority of the total. Anti-choicers cynically use late term abortions as a tool for their anti-choice propaganda, knowing full well how rare they are, and why they occur. This is exactly what you are doing in this thread. Not an answer. Third trimester and partial birth abortions are quite common, actually. But even if there was only one, my question is simple: would you regard such an action as immoral? Yes, or no. That's all.
