Your thinking is really disputation; because you cannot define what philosophy is, you sort mere verbal opposition in the spirit of arguing not dialogue but verbal antagonism.

If I myself believed that I knew what I was talking about: declaring the truth about matters of such high interest, which people honor and love. I am most in need of sure footing and I pray I do.

Courage is a sort of saving power of true opinion about real and false dangers. Under all circumstances I intimate under all desire or fear I preserve and do not lose courage.

If you had read any of my posts, you would have noticed that I have defined philosophy as 'critical thought'.

I am most in need of sure footing and I pray I do.

Then might I recommend religion rather than philosophy, as there one can 'believe' unto 'certainty'.

WHat is a "true opinion"? As far as I can see, all 'opinions' are equally true.

Whatever get you though the night is fine (not that you have any choice), but 'belief' and 'clinging' to one's 'crucifix' is the warmth and security of religion rather than the bloody mental shark attack of philosophy.

No, of course not 'for' protection (poorly worded), perhaps as protection, or, different coloration happens at moments of decreased predation (correlation rather than causation).
