Everything exists through cycles thread.
Sure. But as long as we are here, assuming that the world has structure, and assuming that we can model it. It's useful!
We are having some success with that stupid idea.
No, we are just making the world more complex than it needs to be and dissolving ourselves in the process.
You still seek non-contradiction in this mad universe? Perfect is the enemy of good enough!
I never said contradiction or paradox is not perfect.
And replace it with what?
Why?
Keep on lookin' up! But if you want to get there you are going to have figure out how to live a tad longer than 65 years...
It remains to be seen.

Re: Explaining Everything Explains Nothing
Complexity is a property of the universe. Not of our understanding.
The universe is the most complex thing in existence!
It's not going to get any easier just because we want to cure cancer... The universe owes us nothing.
Ok, then what are the criteria for that which you seek?
The Metaphysics Theory which you so desire?
What properties will it have if/when you find it?
Why not?
He who has a why can bear any how.
Well, it doesn't solve itself. People work their asses off to add to the body of knowledge.
It's paying off. Albeit slowly. But it is a team effort...

It does owe is nothing, hence trying to reorganize it only causes further problems to occur as we can expect nothing from it.

And what is the criteria for such a question?
The Metaphysics Theory which you so desire?
There is no desire for a theory.
What properties will it have if/when you find it?
If I haven't found it what type of properties would I know it to consist of?
Why not?
He who has a why can bear any how.
And those with how's are still left with why's.

We will see...knowledge can be destroyed when subject to group agreement.
Re: Explaining Everything Explains Nothing
I don't think we are trying to organize the universe. I think we are trying to organize our thoughts about it.
And there is a "Why?" Because I want to.
The other "Why?" is nihilism waving back.

The Universe is completely indifferent to our attempts at trying to understand it which we never fully will
The why questions are only important to us but may be entirely meaningless as it exists just because it can
Saying it is complex is also a subjective interpretation on our part based upon how much we still dont know
If we totally understood it it would not be complex to us as we would know perfectly well how it functioned

Re: Explaining Everything Explains Nothing
The complexity of a system can be quantified and measured, so I wouldn't quite call it subjective.surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 24, 2019 7:34 am The Universe is completely indifferent to our attempts at trying to understand it which we never fully will

If we totally understood the universe, we would say that we are intelligent enough to understand things as complex as the universe.
What would also be true is that we (the understanders of the complex universe) would be more complex than the universe itself.
