...and so should all wishing to seek enlightenment find a tree of their choice to sit under then patiently wait to see what incubates before it's too late and all the trees are gone!

The OP is a story for a kindergarten class.
The Buddha Story is actually a myth representing the reality and the truth of life plus how to deal with all of life's negatives especially the mother of all, i.e. the inherent fear of dying.
In a real situation then [2500 years ago] it would have been very stupid and not realistic for any able prince to give up an inheritance to a kingdom.
To deal with the basic dukkha [mental negatives] of life is not an easy task but it is best resolved using an effective model and system as introduced by the Buddha. This is presented within the 4NT-8FP interative model, i.e. as presented here,
Buddhism's 4NT-8FP is a Life Problem Solving Technique.

The effective of the model is its flexibility to cater for anyone from the lowest spiritual potential [1/100] to those of the highest [99/100].
As a comparison, relatively the highest and maximum the Abrahamic religions can attained is 60/100 level of spirituality. In the case of Hinduism [various] the max is 80/100.
