Can there be more than one right answer?

Post by Philosophy Explorer »

Maybe the answer depends on what is meant by "right." Which may depend on the question. Or maybe there's more to this.

Math calculations are about the only thing I can imagine that are built on single answers. Beyond that, in my experience, LOTS of answers/solutions/approaches "work" -- and it's a more rare occurrence for there to be only one right answer. That's why I challenge any who claim they've got "IT". In such a vast Universe of seemingly endless possibilities, it doesn't make sense (to me) that there would be single "rightness" about anything.

If the answer isn't what you desire, change the question.

42 isn't wrong. It's just the answer to another question you didn't actually ask.

A couple of questions which might well only have one one correct answer would be...
Is president Trump's hair a little bit fake?
Is this a question?

A couple of questions with more than one correct answer would be...
What are your three favourite foods?
Can you point to any unusually vapid topics that PhilX has started on this forum?

And you can ask has FDP been unusually insulting to anyone on this forum?

Well done. You didn't pretend that was an ad hominem, which is better than you usually manage, AND you found an extremely obvoius example of a question with more than one right answer.

So, we've comprehensively dealt with this vapid topic haven't we?

Unfortunately with you, you're a lost case. You've yet to learn how to respect others, forgetting different people have different interests so you feel free to use ad homs and insult people which is why you haven't earned my respect. Until you manage to straighten yourself out, you're not worth the bother.

But you did provide a question with mnore than one right answer though. I insult you and Nick, because you are a pair of complete window-lickers. So that is another case where there is more than one correct answer.

You make a pest of yourself where it isn't your business to do so,. If you want to make an ass out of yourself, do so on your time.

Oooh, so there is a question where the correct answer is both pest and ass.
You are brilliantly demonstrating why I thought this was one of your dumbest and least philosophical topics yet.

God, if I had a tongue like that, I'd never be alone again. Or have a stiff neck. Actually kinda feeling deficient now.

DP, are you deriving pleasure from FDP? You may have found a solution to your anhedonia.
