I think it is clear that 'political correctness' means different things to different people. I agree that there are 'politically correct' people, ranging from the smug to the violent, that need to be resisted. In my opinion, they are playing into the hands of Brexiters, Trump, the Alt-Right, religious fundamentalists and associated right wing nuts, by giving them the headlines they need to support their narrative, that freedom of speech is under attack, by anyone to the left of Mussolini. After all, few people look at more than the headlines.

Be that as it may, he was clearly, to me at least, referring to the change in meaning of 'political correctness'. Since the term can have at least two meanings, it is only the context that will make clear which is being referred to.

Well, as I'm sure you appreciate by now, that depends on the context. There is no context, that I can imagine, in which n***** just means black and certainly none that I have read or heard. Since n***** has always meant black, in your experience, perhaps you could give an example.

That's interesting. What has been the difference for you, qualitatively, in practical terms? How did you feel before and how did you feel after?

When I was first diagnosed I was very short of breath, I couldn't even walk up one flight of stairs without stopping half way up to catch my breath, I couldn't carry on a conversation without gasping for breath. Now I have little or no trouble climbing a flight of stairs, and conversation is not a problem, but I have noticed that I can't sing for more than one or 2 songs without getting a bit dizzy. I believe that just after I developed the condition my heart wasn't pumping very well and the muscle cells would run out of oxygen, my heart probably started beating faster and harder but wasn't doing much good. So my body signaled for me to breath faster to try and get more oxygen. All that has gotten much better on just proper medication, I avoided open heart surgery to replace the Mitral valve, (there wasn't really anything wrong with it, the left ventricle was enlarged and wouldn't let it close correctly). My 1st cardiologist insisted that I needed surgery to replace the valve, but as I said there was nothing wrong with the valve. Prior to the diagnosis I would be loading wood onto my pickup truck and about 3/4 of the way through, I had enough and I blamed it on the heat, but now I can see that it was my heart condition that was effecting me. Now I'm about 10 years older and I take a bit longer to do things, on purpose, I have learned to pace myself and still get things done, just not as much as I used to. I'm really not sure how much is the heart condition and how much is just age. FYI I turned 70 in Jan. so that might be part of it.

The tie in between heart and lungs is amazing. I mean that, whilst both keep us alive, they have a special connection. It's been proved that reduced lung capacity has a direct effect on heart function and failure, as opposed to say, liver or kidney failure. The brain can exist for a certain amount of time after the lungs stop breathing and the heart stops beating but, with heart-lung function, they exist, intimately connected and dramatically influencing each other, like few other organs in the body.

I think life in general, like thought, should be about pacing oneself. I tend to rush. I'm often told to slow down, and whilst I think in response to people that say that to me: "No, you speed up!", there is wisdom in those words.

Congrats on reaching 70! Hope to get there myself one day, without too much rush.
