There's no need to stamp your foot just because I can't be bothered to watch your silly youtube videos.Hobbes' Choice wrote: You don't have the attention span for this Forum.

Don't see eye-eye with you often Melchior but thanks for this as it was a joy to watch someone practicing their art and how to deal with mistakes.Melchior wrote:https://youtu.be/WNzlNpJ6tb8

Prejudice's wrongs range from the defective to the injurious, depending on the circumstances.Harbal wrote:What the hell's wrong with prejudice? We all practice prejudice every day.

Er .. so then all of what you heard would have been hogwash, surely? So why did you say "most of what I heard was hogwash?".Harbal wrote:The bits I missed.Arising_uk wrote:And which bits didn't you think were hogwash?Harbal wrote:I heard most of all of them and most of what I heard was hog wash.
I smell bullshit, friend Harbal.
Re: What is the English way?
For a start, I found the man intolerably patronising, which, I admit, did not dispose me sympathetically towards him. He obviously had his own agenda and I think the fact that he was both black and gay very much determined his point of view. That's fair enough but I am neither black nor gay so my point of view is not the same as his. His assertion that race does not exist will not convince anybody who has more sense than people like Hobbes and maybe you. He would have us believe that the difference between what most of us would call the different races is purely superficial, which is something I find highly implausible.Arising_uk wrote:So what was the hogwash?

PC PC PC hyposcisy hypocrisy hypocrisy. 'Progressives' and hypocrisy. Inseparable bedmates.Hobbes' Choice wrote:prejudice, prejudice, prejudice.vegetariantaxidermy wrote:So you think there is no such thing as cultural identity. What an odd, homogenous bubble you live in. In your world no one would ever be able to say, 'The English have a good sense of humour', or 'Americans are very literal', or 'Chinese are hard workers', or 'Germans are arrogant' etc. etcHobbes' Choice wrote:
I'm puzzled, then, why you are contributing to a thread called "What is the English way"? I suggest that this primitve sort of tribalism is not only mythical, but divisive and harmful to humanity's future.
Monty Python is best characterised as "British" or "English" in that with each sketch it made fun of and ridiculed the very things that are considered to be the "British way of life", but take away the bowler hat, and the handlebar moustache of the Brigadier, and you have a sketch that could just as well have been a critique of any upper/middle class society on western europe.

But Sam Harris isn't black or gay. Which video are you referring to?Harbal wrote:For a start, I found the man intolerably patronising, which, I admit, did not dispose me sympathetically towards him.
