Yeah. The recent actions by Director James Comey is unprecedented.
Got the feeling the first half of the week is going to be a wild ride.

Harry Reid in a letter to FBI Director James Comey -
In my communications with you and other top officials in the national security community, it has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisers, and the Russian government - a foreign interest openly hostile to the United States, which Trump praises at every opportunity.
...Yep. Monday & Tuesday will definitely be interesting.

With the ugly mood in America today, and for good reason, if I were either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump...but especially the former, I'd fear the greater possibility of assassination attempts. Both are hated beyond any Presidential candidate in the past and likely to be hated even more upon inception.
As many in America already realize they've long been obscenely shafted by the "establishment"; the Clinton clan and their "foundation" make Putin look like a relatively honest chap. Truth may not be in Trump's or any politician's vocabulary but he sure spoke it when he called Hillary a crook. Had Trump behaved better, been a little less extreme, he'd likely have trounced Clinton in one of the most massive landslides in American history...which begs the question, how intelligent is Trump in not realizing that. Sometimes it looked as if he wanted to sabotage his own prospects.
The world has nothing to look forward to with either of these candidates; in general, the world has nothing but the greedy and the power-hungry ruling it. One can only guess the eventual consequences but maybe for current piece of mind it's better not to.

Jack Marshall has a blog called Ethics Alarms and writes critically of Obama. Marshall's perspective and background is based in Constitutional law (he is a lawyer and an ethicist), and his analysis of all political going-on is substantially grounded. There is a critical position of Obama's policies and his activities.
Myself, I don't know if Obama can himself be blamed, yet after 8 years of Obama administrations, the country is poised right on the verge of intense civil conflict. How did this come about?
Jack Marshall locates the problem not in the forces that oppose Obama, whatever they may be, but in Obama himself: his choices, his actions. Personally, I have always thought well of Obama and I like his overall style. He is obviously a very good communicator. But then I never did look too closely at his specific policy choices, nor consider the end resuls of his presidency which seems to have seriously divided the country (though perhaps this is inevitable and would have resulted so in any case). But Marshall doesn't think so.
Here is a link to Jack Marshall's blog essays that critique Obama. Jack is a respectable opinionator. He is largely 'conservative' in a legal and constitutional sense but quite liberal-progressive in most social areas. Very opposed to abortion on principle but completely accepting of homosexuality.

Greta wrote:The timing of the FBI's inquiry announcement makes clear that Clinton has a problem - the leadership of the FBI is clearly not only Republican in sympathies, but so strongly so that its leadership is prepared to risk everything on a final attempt to help Trump over the line.
The head of the FBI's situation will be untenable if Clinton wins as expected. If Trump wins, he'll be in line for either a pay rise or a promotion. I have never seen a so-called independent government-funded agency in a modern democracy make such a blatant and bold political play. It's extraordinary. Welcome to the brave new world.
Clinton should not even be a candidate.
What’s clear is that the leaders of the Democratic party selected a candidate for POTUS who is under criminal investigation, and who is also adept at lying, stalling, misdirecting and stonewalling. Such tactics do push up against deadlines such as elections.
If there had not been a conspiracy to rig the primaries, which resulted in the scandalous resignation of the party chair and perhaps her successor who was also caught lying about her role in the cheating, the voice of the voters might have been heard.
For the FBI to wade through hundreds of thousands of govt. e-mails recently discovered on a private device that was sworn under oath* to not exist, and which was accessible to a serial sexter outside of government, will require some time. Perhaps even some disinfecting, both literally and figuratively.
As was noted early in the race in a thread on the forum, a foreseeable scenario is chaos at election time that causes the powers to declare a delay, giving Obama a third-term by fiat.
*Actually, I'm not sure of that. Maybe the lying about devices was not under oath, but it was done under FBI questioning which makes it criminal, though there reportedly is no transcript of the interviews where the lying occurred, which according to the FBI director is SOP in such situations.

Clinton is a Saul Alinsky accolite.
“To say that corrupt means corrupt the ends is to believe in the immaculate conception of ends and principles. The real arena is corrupt and bloody. Life is a corrupting process from the time a child learns to play his mother off against his father in the politics of when to go to bed; he who fears corruption fears life.”

Democracy is surely almost dead - and costs a fortune. I know that its death has been predicted many times, but this time it's for real. Eighteen months of campaigning, outrageous expense and unprecedented hatred, divisions and bad blood in US society has been largely rendered irrelevant by a simple "dropping" from a partisan leader of the FBI. The report passed to Republicans was timed to perfection - just long enough for the vague pretense at allegations to bite but without allowing enough time for right of reply.
This was the only hope the Dems would ever have of a big win and gaining control of Congress. That is gone. Just one sleazy letter that is guaranteed to be discredited afterwards when it's too late.
Never mind this election result, the die is clearly cast for the medium term - interference by the powerful in the political process is now okay, no longer considered a conflict of interest, corruption of official taxpayer funded officials or subversion of democracy. So it's very much looking like the Democrats and other non hard-right parties will be largely gone by 2050 or so through redundancy, akin to the impotent Japanese Democratic party, which enjoyed power for just a few years in the last six decades. The future is not just right wing, but extreme right wing.
As the right firms its grip on power (clearly by any and all means), I expect the end of meaningful democracy in the west altogether, if it's not already gone due to powerful partisan players.
Be ready to serve your feudal masters well. Or else. They do not tolerate or understand failure like the left does. In the Brave New World we are building, if young people fail to excel early on they will be on the scrapheap for life - again, as in Japan today.

I don't believe that in the West the vast majority of the population will commit to serving their masters. The West is used to an entirely different standard from the East and that dichotomy can, should and probably will engender extremely violent revolutions once it's fully realized - as it's beginning to already - that rights have been massively subtracted to leverage further the power of those who are already top-heavy with it. Either that or history teaches nothing. There will be consequences to the dictatorial monopolization of power. It's by no means as simple as it once was.

Do you mean that America is moving towards a more inner-directed type of self-violence?
Open revolution?

Rumblings are already felt. We'll see what happens after the election and the level of civil disobedience which may develop in consequence.

As a concerned American and an avid philosopher I see where we are as a nation. EVERYONE is armed to the teeth and there seems to be an angst that is becoming focused.
I'm especially concerned for each day that goes by we seem to be moving farther & farther away from what I recognize as the ideals that America, my America, was based upon...
Doesn't look good. Can't seem to put my finger on it yet but...there are storm clouds.

Yes. Hillary and Huma could even tell us what are in these emails themselves - that is unless Hillary forgot again.Walker wrote:That's right.Trajk Logik wrote:Hillary knows that FBI cannot release information in an open, on-going investigation.Walker wrote: Hillary Clinton Demands FBI Release Any Information It Has On New Email Investigation

She's a lawyer. She knows that. Sneaky Hillary.
She seeks to prey on our trusting ignorance by illegitimately claiming the moral high ground at this late date with a faux-demand for full FBI disclosure, yet the "faux" went unremarked in the indignant outcry over a situation she created, and now comes her fake public offer of full transparency and clarity that is the backbone ... (blah blah blah).
Maybe if she didn't delete all those emails we wouldn't be back here now with emails that could be copies of what she deleted. Comey said that there was no intent, but deleting emails itself shows intent.
The double-standard for elites like Hillary and regular citizens like is available for all to see. The Clintons have become so sure of themselves that they can get away with anything that Bill can meet with the Attorney General during an on-going investigation on his wife without any repercussions.
Anyone who can't see through this is obviously biased and blind. They care more about party than the country, which is why I say that we need to dump the party system and vote for people, not party (I have no party affiliation. I'm independent). It's not going to happen though until there are more people angry at the government itself than at American citizens from some other party. That is how the government divides us and makes us fight each other rather than fighting an ever-increasing oppressive government.

Trump is a precursor to this. He largely by-passed the party system. The GOP had selected Jeb Bush, just as the Dems had selected Clinton.
Trump by-passed the party system with tweeting.
Because he was the first it’s still not a definitive, separate process. He did have to enter the political party system. But he obviously got this far in a unique way that could forsehadow future elections.
One could say he got here on time and under budget, like his last major renovation project in Washinton D.C. that was in the news a little bit.
The exponential use of digital technology already indicates that at the next go-round, by-passing the system will either be more sophisticated, or it will be non-existent. Who knows, depending upon who wins this time, the supreme court just might declare smart-phone voting to be a constitutional right, even though such a method would be easily corruptible.
