Human evolution

It took human about millions of years to evolve from Homo sapiens to modern human. It however took human around 3000 years to form advanced civilization. We of course couldn't have significant evolution during this 3000 years. So the first question is how possibly human evolve for millions of years without any civilization? The second question is that how we could possibly evolve to such a degree for millions of years without any significant advantage? This seems odd and improbable to me.
