Who are you?

Post by AiR »

Who are you? Have you ever thought who you are? Are you the body? Are you the mind? Are you the intellect? Are you the Soul, the Energy?

Unfortunately, we presume that we are what we look like, but in reality we are not what we look like. Science has proved that we are bundles of energy, trillions and trillions of atomic particles put together that make us look like who we are. And as science now endorses we are nothing but energy. Through their discovery of the wave particle duality, scientists have seen how particles become waves and waves become particles only to prove that we are not the physical mass of body that we seem to be. We are energy that is packed together and looks like a human body! But if somebody were to tell you that you are not you; you are something else, it will be very difficult for you to accept it and to understand it. So if the truth is this that you are not you, then what are you, who are you?

Stop. Ask yourself this question. You need to introspect, go deep within, find out the real answer and then probably you will realize who and what you truly are!

What "truth" would have negated that I am not me or you are not you? From micro to macro, sentient or not, every existing thing is an incarnation of energy which, by its very nature or function, is the most malleable entity in the universe and in fact IS the universe precluding nothing which "can" exist within it. If we are so uniquely special as to who we truly are it must be affirmed that everything else which exists deserves the same honor with or without any ability for introspection...besides which introspection with a predefined purpose yields no truth in response except self-induced myth-making.

You are trying to answer one question with a method from a non overlapping magisterium.
You are what you subjectively think you are, and science offers a view of what you objectively are.

Your experience of "you" cannot be understood through the objective, except by reflection. But the answers are not existentially or experientially valid on their own. If I have a pain it might be useful to know the physical causes as this can help me take action on a physical level to alleviate that pain. But a pill, does not naturally or seemingly lead to a directly understandable change in that pain, as the experience of the pain is only a corollary of the physicality of nerves.
Add pseudo- or para- physical entities like "soul" or abstractions like "intellect" or "mind" do not answer your question, they simply muddy the waters.

Who you are is prior to who you think you are and who you think you are is also who you are.

Who Who, Who Who.

Love that tune. Love the Who in general.
Have you ever thought who you are?
Yes.
Are you the body?
Yes.
Are you the mind?
Well, the mind is part of the body. So yeah.
Are you the intellect?
That's part of the mind.
Are you the Soul, the Energy?
Depending on how you define "soul," it either doesn't exist or it's just another term for body stuff. Energy is just a term for material stuff being in motion (in my opinion; I think the idea of energy being able to obtain aside from matter in motion is incoherent).
Unfortunately, we presume that we are what we look like, but in reality we are not what we look like.
I don't agree with that.
Science has proved that we are bundles of energy, trillions and trillions of atomic particles put together that make us look like who we are.
But trillions and trillions of atomic particles IS what we look like. You can look at what we look like on different scales, of course, so that you see the trillions and trillions of atomic particles altogether, or you see them in much smaller clumps, etc., but that's all still what we look like.
And as science now endorses we are nothing but energy.
That's the view that I believe is incoherent.
Through their discovery of the wave particle duality, scientists have seen how particles become waves and waves become particles
Which just means that what that matter and its motion is really like doesn't quite match the previous conception of "particles" versus "waves."
only to prove that we are not the physical mass of body that we seem to be.
I don't think it "proves" any such thing. Also, note that most of the science you're referring to is mathematics. Mathematics is just a language we use to talk about the phenomena we observe. We can't take the phenomena we observe to actually BE mathematics, though. We can't reify mathematics. Lots of ontological mistakes get made because of that.
But if somebody were to tell you that you are not you
I'd tell them that they do not understand how to use language, that they do not understand the basics of logic. At best, they'd be equivocating.

I hope that you're really not older than, say, 17.

(In response to a Hobbes post that appears to have been deleted:)

He actually looks like a cool, mellow guy.

Maybe he's just doing shtick here because he's bored.

I just googled Bob Evenson. I looked deeper - its not him.

I found this dodgy bit of doggerel though.

And the flim-flam which leads him to think of himself as some sort of prophet.

From the 1990 date, assuming minimum age 20 - would put him 46+. So a little bit more than 17.

Weird I'd say. To have an obsession for 26 years and counting.

In that case the revelation as to who you are is complete and introspection no-longer required. Congrats! Pity the rest of us poor slobs who keep on introspecting with nothing to show for it.

Since you're from New York City, where large soft drinks are taxed, but small brains aren't, I'll let your stupid comment slide.

Flim-flam? Discovering in 20 minutes what nobody else in the world could discover in 170 years, relating the Queen City nickname of Cincinnati to Babylon and ancient Rome in the book of Revelation? Please!
