Does Bill Wiltrack pretend to be a philosopher?
He likes to use links, but that doesn't make him a philosopher. He likes to give opinions, but that doesn't make him a philosopher either. He doesn't seem to hold any philosophical thoughts.
What do you think?

We are all philosophers.
Thus, that is what we pretend to be.

I think that anyone can be, or pretend to be, a philosopher, but their behavior will reveal what they're really about. Identifying oneself as a philosopher (or with a philosophy website) is NO indication of mental stability, clarity, wisdom, or honorability.
I think an honest and brave philosopher is willing to discuss and exchange ideas, rather than just spewing things at people. An honorable philosopher is surely willing to explain and question themselves and their ideas in front of others... because aren't truth and clarity worth that? To not do so seems more like creating dogma and feeding one's ego -- trying to announce what is ultimately true, and proclaiming oneself as the deliverer of that truth. That is not philosophical exploration.

Seriously, go to her user profile & LOOK at her posts. NOTHING but negativity. There is no philosophizing from her. Period.
I AM glad she has taken my advice & has taken a break for a bit. Let her emotions calm down a bit.
Let's give her a chance & see if she comes back & actually STARTS some decent philosophical discussions or participates in actual philosophzing within someone else's thread.
I wish her luck & health!

Do you consider yourself a narcissist Bill?
Re: Does Bill Wiltrack pretend to be a philosopher?
I would ask you to explain yourself, but I know you can’t -- and I really don’t care what your delusional, childish mind thinks. There is nothing I said that is unreasonable. If you think there is, address it and explain your own reasoning. You’re just spewing as usual with no foundation or explanation. Because, again, you are a dishonorable narcissist steeped in bullshit. You seem unable to step out of it or see beyond it.Bill Wiltrack wrote:My god girl. Take a look at your posts...Negative Nellie. Oh, have you been reading my posts, Bill? Too bad you can't see beyond your bullshit to understand what's there -- you might gain some insights beyond your own limited potential. But it's no surprise that you can't, because you only see what feeds your ego. And, foolishly, THAT'S where you want to stand and be heard... to the dismay of a lot of people observing you.Bill Wiltrack wrote:Seriously, go to her user profile & LOOK at her posts. I think he only thinks of himself in as a "philosopher" in the sense that he gave in his first response in this thread, where "everyone is a philosopher" (and where he probably thinks that no matter what they do, they can't help but be a philosopher in that sense). He probably just means something like "everyone contemplates and wonders about things"--that's sufficient in his mind to be a philosopher.Philosophy Explorer wrote:He likes to use links, but that doesn't make him a philosopher. He seems to want a message board that's more like a neighborhood bar full of people who aren't going to be too demanding--for example, by challenging anything and wanting a direct answer; people who'll just go with the flow someone suggests to make friendly quips, ideally with a smidgen of "clever" humor--the sort of neighborhood bar we might find in Lake Wobegon (of A Prairie Home Companion fame).

Yes, he pretends...if that's all he did, I'd be fine with it...I said, as one of the few who defended him when he was given his 'vacation' from the forum, 'he's a nutjob, harmless, leave him be or tussle with him, but don't ban him'.
But, while he pretends to be a philosopher, it's obvious to me now he 'is' a plagiarist, a hypocrite, and a liar...in my view: he's no longer harmless...he'll take another's arrangement of words (and the ideas conveyed by that arrangement) and pass it off as his own...he's a thief...he'll berate others using avatars and handles instead of self-photos and given names but he'll not fess up to his own dishonesty...he's a hypocrite.
For all the fighting and silliness that goes on in this place, the one constant is the apparent honesty of all involved...some folks here are retarded beyond all reason but they all appear honest...Bill has distinguished himself as -- again -- a thief and a liar...the powers that be ought to ban him permanently for his achievement.

Re: Does Bill Wiltrack pretend to be a philosopher?
That is a common and fair enough take on the question. But it isn't Bill's. He thinks that what he does is very special indeed, and he thinks of himself as a genuinely inspirational figure in the history of philosophy.Terrapin Station wrote:I think he only thinks of himself in as a "philosopher" in the sense that he gave in his first response in this thread, where "everyone is a philosopher" (and where he probably thinks that no matter what they do, they can't help but be a philosopher in that sense). I originally assumed he had a remarkable sense of playful irony for an American. But so far as I can see, that is entirely unintended.

When it comes to philosophy; searching for the truth, we are all equal & we are all equally beggars.
In the realm of philosophy the alcoholic & the academic stand upon the same ground; equally relevant.
