A bit of trivia that maybe you knew: there was a porn music version, in an Emmanuel film, of King Crimson's "Larks Tongues in Aspic, Part II". That fact probably wouldn't be as well known as it is, but Robert Fripp unsurprisingly sued the producers of the film.

If there is less sexy music around than King Crimson, I'd like to hear it. In fact, I would describe that album as opposite to everything that vacuous "sexy society" wanted of youth at the time.

I was mad about that album during my tortured teens; it seemed to capture my mood at the time, especially Part 1, which I preferred to Part 2, and ensuing parts. The piece had such a lasting impact that decades later I created my own largely execrable, highly abstracted and barely recognisable version of the piece using mostly noises and effects :) It should be said that I haven't listened to it through for many years. My tastes have changed but we usually maintain a soft spot for the music that touched us in youth.

Larks Tongues is definitely one of my favorite Crimson albums. I've never "grown out of" or even just sauntered away from any music I've loved in the past. On the other hand, I do listen to past loves less often than I used to, but just because I have so many more albums now. It takes longer to get back to stuff in rotation.

...which goes to show that it's not only the work itself but how it's performed which captures the imagination. It all defaults to personal choice on what cranks one's engine.

I love all kinds of music. I don't think I've posted anything classical on here (apart from the Mozart), and an amazing three-year-old conducting some Beethoven.

There is one massive example: his entire canon of work. Symphony 40 is quite nice, but really? It's all a bit chintzy.

No. It's all crap. Mozart is okay for children but its not very challenging to a mature ear.

Had he lived longer then maybe he's have written something worthwhile, but I'd not swap his entire cannon for Beethoven's first Symphony. Ludwig Van had real class.
