Are you saying that you would know what an appropriate gift to a prostitute would be?Lacewing wrote:Well not his ear! Re: What is an Artist?
I see that an artist would rather focus on the beauty, as the universe provides, instead of attempting to corrupt it, with decisions and revisions that a second can reverse. As many a great sculptors have said in the past, 'the sculpture was already contained within the medium, I just removed that which concealed it.'Pluto wrote:An artist is someone who sits outside or on the edge of the system.
An artist is someone who works inside the system using its tools to climb up the ladder.
An artist is someone who says I'm an Artist and means it.
Re: What is an Artist?
That's very narrow. You have just excluded a huge proportion of art that exposes and reflects the non-beautiful, which is certainly as much part of reality as beauty. Just ask a gazelle struggling under a hungry lion.SpheresOfBalance wrote:I see that an artist would rather focus on the beauty ...

Re: What is an Artist?
Your complaint is actually with your understanding of what is naturally beautiful and what isn't. But don't be alarmed, many humans, especially females, have problems accepting that as one dies, another lives; without one dying, another dies. The ecosystems of our planet include natural checks and balances, without which the crucial balance in nature would cause serious problems with all life. Look at humankind at seven billion strong, with respect to global warming and virus epidemics, to see what imbalance creates. And it shall only get worse, because humankind is selfishly stupid!Greta wrote:That's very narrow.SpheresOfBalance wrote:I see that an artist would rather focus on the beauty ...
To your mind.
You have just excluded a huge proportion of art that exposes and reflects the non-beautiful,
Nope, as all the universe is beautiful!
which is certainly as much part of reality as beauty.
Beauty is all there is, in the 'natural' universe.
Just ask a gazelle struggling under a hungry lion.
That's just as beautiful, as planet earth is a 'symbiotic' biosphere.
Re: What is an Artist?
If beauty were all there was, we wouldn't know it as beauty. The universe contains ALL of it, to be perceived in countless ways, and for us to work with and create art from. Why are you denying any of it?SpheresOfBalance wrote:Beauty is all there is, in the 'natural' universe.
So that isn't BEAUTIFUL to you? Are you judging what is "natural" beauty and what is not... or what is balanced and what is not? How do you draw the lines, and how are your lines representative of the ultimate truth?SpheresOfBalance wrote:Look at humankind at seven billion strong, with respect to global warming and virus epidemics, to see what imbalance creates. Nice dodge, answer a question with a question. Does being a prostitute make a difference to you?Lacewing wrote:Are you saying that being a prostitute makes any difference at all?thedoc wrote:Are you saying that you would know what an appropriate gift to a prostitute would be?
FYI, I don't care.
Re: What is an Artist?
Beauty and Ugly are human constructs, outside of human perception, there is no beautiful or ugly, it's all just natural.
Art is outside of human perception.
Art is outside of human perception.
Re: What is an Artist?
I wasn't dodging... I was making a point. You asked a question which had nothing to do with my response. I said that an EAR is a stupid gift. You tried to suggest that I was saying that I knew what an appropriate gift would be for a prostitute! I don't even know why you went down that path of thought, but I don't think a gift matters based on whether a person is a prostitute, and I don't think an ear is a good gift for anyone.thedoc wrote:Nice dodge, answer a question with a question. Re: What is an Artist?
How is that? When I create art, it's definitely based on my human perception.thedoc wrote:Art is outside of human perception.
Re: What is an Artist?
So if not a body part, what is an appropriate gift in your estimation, is it dependent on the monetary value? How about baubles such as jewelry that you can resell at a specific value, does that make it a better gift? How much is a good gift worth?Lacewing wrote: I wasn't dodging... I was making a point. Re: What is an Artist?
Are you sure that it is only your own human efforts that make the art, or is there something else that is working through you, that creates the art?Lacewing wrote:How is that? When I create art, it's definitely based on my human perception.thedoc wrote:Art is outside of human perception.
Re: What is an Artist?
I'd say the usual qualities of a good gift are something that makes me feel good and is not gross. Not too hard, is it?thedoc wrote:So if not a body part, what is an appropriate gift in your estimation, is it dependent on the monetary value? Has nothing to do with money. But bloody body parts are definitely not on my list -- call me "picky" if you want.

Your inability to understand, apparent in your misquoting.
So that isn't BEAUTIFUL to you?SpheresOfBalance wrote:Look at humankind at seven billion strong, with respect to global warming and virus epidemics, to see what imbalance creates. And it shall only get worse, because humankind is selfishly stupid!
A lion kills an antelope so it can live. Men kill all animals for trophies. Which seems to have gone over your head.
Are you judging what is "natural" beauty and what is not...
What is and is not, is easy for all to see, except the blind.
or what is balanced and what is not?
See immediately above.
How do you draw the lines, and how are your lines representative of the ultimate truth?
I do not draw the lines, the universe does! That you are blind, very apparent. Look harder, open your closed mind, you that believes you are better than others, such that you would exile them, then when shown you are the one that has the problem, you hold a grudge, much to your further failing.![]()
