No, I was in a Facebook group with referees I worked with. Read things I didn't want to read, and quit both Facebook and reffing. Reading things on Facebook is like reading a person's inner thoughts. They don't think that the person it's about will read it. And some thoughts are best left unsaid.

Besides that, I'm basically a loner, and don't always relish human contact. It exhausts me. Don't mind it here so much, but a forum has a distinct purpose, aside from 'what I just ate, and excreted'. I don't think I'm perfect, far from it. But I don't need to wallow with the rest, proving my imperfection on a daily basis. I do enough of that here lol! I just want to live my life, and get to the finish, sans as little bullshit as possible.

I certainly appreciate your position. Quite alike in that sense, though I'm less inclined to share my opinion. No one cares, anyways. It all becomes intellectual wallpaper in the end; just a big blend of idea graffiti on a random wall, that no one can really remember clearly.

I read or heard somewhere that you can live your life however you want, but you won't get out of it alive. Interesting thought, except for the young, who think they are indestructible. One thing that really helped me to relax and enjoy life, is the thought that we don't need to have all the answers before we die. We'll find out soon enough, whatever we need to know.

FYI, I'm a bit past you and surreptitious57. I'll be 70 next Jan. I wish I could say that wisdom comes with age, but it doesn't, you just get older and start forgetting what you thought you knew.

I haven't forgotten anything. For example, I recall just the other day, er, no, last week, umm... What was the topic again?

I used to joke with my dad that, if we lost it around the same time, we could enjoy the same movie together, every day, from a library of one. I forget which movie, though. (Did I mention this anecdote before?)

Again, totally agree. Though not on the eternity bit. I think we go back to bugger all nothing. I do fear lingering in pain and humiliation near the end, though. I'd gladly skip that chapter.

That's the view I see too, and it's very freeing. Life has been much richer and sweeter since I stopped demanding significance from it. I accept my temporary place alongside the rest of nature.
