The youtube link is still working. Watched half of it now, She's quite a "milf", but apart from that, It's all Wikipedia stuff. I'm going to look it through, it's well done and amusing. But if you want to go to another level, get a copy of "the free society and it's enemies", by Popper and read(it all, but most importantly) the critique of Marx by Popper. There more things fall into place. Read it, and then ponder upon Brexit, globalization, cheap chinese workers... Things start to make sense.

Edit: Finished it now, better towards the end, some good discussions around his ideas. Definitely see-worthy. But Popper takes on Marx in a more ingenious way.

By the way, I would say that I have seen something that could be described as a good world according to Marx, and it also was a very good time and place to live in - Social Democrat Central Scandinavia in the late 70's and early 80's. Things have, as in most western countries deteriorated since then, the world is a much more complicated place now. But if the world can get into that state, we might have found the nirvana he was looking for.

Well I checked it out and have to agree with MB, it wasn't "chewy" enough. No wine here, so I believe it's an accurate assessment, for some people anyway.

It kind of angered me in the beginning where she blamed Marx for communism, as practiced by varying governments, for it's failings, but she later clarified that those governments would place him in the category of undesirable. Because I've always heard, not that I've read his works so that I'd know, that no government has of yet, actually followed his prescription, such that he really can't be blamed for the twisted versions of his works, those governments actually employed. Which is what I was trying to get to the bottom of by watching the show, but running time did not allow for such a conclusion to my mind, based I believe, upon what they had no time to cover, not necessarily to do with truth or bias.

Nietzsche didn't fare any better. These kind of one hour programs are not sufficient to cover the complexities of a type which doesn't resolve itself to the merely academic. The best they can do is cover the long outline of their lives with merely a hint of what it was all about. In spite of these limitations a lot of these BBC documentaries are still worth watching as short preambles to the real thing.

I agree, as I did enjoy being exposed to much of what was covered, thanks again! I was surprised to see the many parallels between his and my thoughts. It always makes me feel good, that I and other minds, that have gained recognition, think alike, despite their doing so long before I was born.

Nietzsche's presentation was even more sparse than Marx. For example N's relation to Wagner was extremely important in Nietzsche's life yet there was hardly a mention of it in spite of much writing dedicated to this seven year episode and its subsequent influence on Nietzsche, one he was never able to overcome no matter how great the antipathy expressed against Wagner in his later writings.

Next in line and not yet viewed is Freud who was deeply impressed by Nietzsche's psychological insights. Plan to view shortly but in no hurry.

About our Revisionist heaven over here - The story was, that the social democrats came to power in 1928, and ruled pretty much into the beginning of the 80's. And what happened here was a sloow revolution. My grandfather grew up in a blacksmith's home at the beginning of the 20th century. Being one of the highest in rand among the workers at the country estate owned by a Count Hamilton, he still lived with his mother and father and 5 siblings in a small cottage whith only 2 rooms. That's the kind of country it was. The social democrats did manage to have a good conversation with the big companies, things got on smoothly and at 1980 this was really a super place to live in. Regardless if you were born Gyllenhaal och Svensson. Then USA and the globalization got hold of us, "costs had to be reduced", and it's not the happy place it used to be. Admittedly, we gained a lot from not being involved in the WW's but still, the country built up was some kind of Marx/Rawlsian heaven.
