I am not sure if Clay [sic] was lucky or if he had some kind of prophetic foresight.

Today Ali is laid to rest.

The machinery of society tried to crush Ali and he prevailed. He did what he knew to be right and faced the music.

There’s lots of palookas. Ali was an icon of truth to power. The individual against the machine of society. He beat the paradigm that willfully and purposefully tried to destroy him.

A lot of people were for what was done to him and called it justice. A lot of people were against what what was done to him and called it injustice. He was like Thoreau and Gandhi. With his powerful ethical statement of self-sacrifice he embodied the truth of responsibility. I remember those who rightfully judged him then, who had a clear vision of truth through him. This validation of them confers a measure of credence to their other judgements about life that are further distant from history.

Paradoxically, peace emanated from Ali. I once read some of his interesting comments about his state of consciousness far into a fifteen-round fight.
