Would you prefefer humour left out of conversation?

No. I'm a sour puss, and a Calvinist.

Humour Poll

Post by Dalek Prime »

People have been complaining about humour derailing threads. Personally, I think people derail threads by not communicating. When this happens, I derail them myself with a good laugh, because there's nothing left to say. So, have your say on humour on the forum.

(You can either share your preference, or your prefeference lol!)

Humour is essential in a largely unmoderated forum; there is so much unintentional humour here anyway.

Besides, is it moral to not let would-be emperors know they are making fools of themselves by parading around here while philosophically naked?

Isn't philosophy mostly funny anyway. If we can't laugh at ourselves, who do we laugh at?

When I run my trains, I prefer that they not derail.

Funny people really have no choice about it.

Thing is, some people are just soooo unsophisticated that the humor zooms right over the top.

Speaking of totalitarians like Ramses, I just happen to know of a vido. Have you seen it?
Check it out in case haven’t. It’s very brief.

What I find so fucking funny about the clip is not the delivery of the line, but the subsequent silent action.

How about you? Seen it before?

I've noticed that strong urge to derail a thread in the current thread about who is really an atheist. Many reminders are necessary to properly direct the enthusiasm of atheists who feel this persistent need to change the focus of the thread, but all you can do is lead a horse to water. Can't make it drink, especially if its full.

I thought it might all be a metaphor for information, and the horse (people on the forum) were so full of Bull shit that they couldn't take any more.

It was Wuliheron who said that Philosophy is comedy.

I didn't take the poll since there's no category about applying humor to the subject matter. Humor should be used sparingly to help make points pro or con what's being argued about as it can help to sharpen that point.

That would put you in a 'like humour' category. Actually, I did mess up the categories, I see. Ah well, bugger it.

There's nothing more annoying, in the middle of a deep and serious discussion, than to have some smart arse come along and try to be funny. In my experience, people only do this when they are not capable of contributing in an intelligent and meaningful way. It is completely unnecessary. As many of the posters on this forum have demonstrated, it is perfectly possible to engage in serious discussion with neither intelligence or meaning.
