You mean, if utopia is ever achieved. See above for why this won't be achieved, aside from human nature.Gary Childress wrote:When utopia is achieved, everyone will be conservative.

Re: Post a Random Reflection
No one would want to change that status quo of bliss except, as Harbal states correctly, some disgruntled loons who are never happy. Me, for example lol!vegetariantaxidermy wrote:What does that mean?Gary Childress wrote:When utopia is achieved, everyone will be conservative.

Re: Post a Random Reflection
My stud finder stopped working. I can't find a place to hang my wall mirror.
By the by, marjoram, now you've peaked my curiosity as well lol!
Oh, wait a second! This being a thread of random reflections, this is a random thought of what marjoram was thinking when she happened to be on the thread, and posted it. It had nothing to do with anyone here. I get it now. Very clever, marjoram.

Re: Post a Random Reflection
I was going to post a random reflection, but I don't have a mirror.
I usually don't have any problem finding a stud, but I don't have a mirror.

Re: Post a Random Reflection
Can you loan me your stud finder then? (Nice recursion doc.) This one restaurant I know has a wall mirror on each side of the hallway, setting off a recursive reflection. I love it.thedoc wrote:I was going to post a random reflection, but I don't have a mirror.

Re: Post a Random Reflection
I have thought about doing that with a couple of mirrors on either side of a hall or room. Just never got a roundtuit.Dalek Prime wrote:Can you loan me your stud finder then? (Nice recursion doc.) Re: Post a Random Reflection
A hall would work better. The effect isn't as good if the.mirrors aren't close enough. The ones I spoke of are full length, so you get the whole effect.thedoc wrote:I have thought about doing that with a couple of mirrors on either side of a hall or room. Oops, gotta go. Walker is posting more rubbish lol!
Re: Post a Random Reflection
All I'm looking for is the infinite recession of images, so full length isn't necessary. My real problem is finding two walls that face each other, we used a lot of 45 degree angles in our house. The one good place is in a hall going back to the bedrooms that the grandkids use, but I don't want to freak them out when they visit.Dalek Prime wrote:A hall would work better. Re: Post a Random Reflection
It would be instructive and fun for them. I use recursion in programming all the time. You can either reiterate over data, or you can have the function call itself.
Hofstadter's Gödel, Escher, Bach has really interesting discussions on this stuff.

Probably true, Harbal. Someone would probably want to make it better.Harbal wrote:Somebody will want to change something, that's the nature of people.Gary Childress wrote:When utopia is achieved, everyone will be conservative.
Re: Post a Random Reflection
This OP is already in a state of deep entropy. There are too many reflections on what's random and hardly any on random reflections.
Re: Post a Random Reflection
OK, I've got a random reflection: I wonder what it would be like to be paralysed from the waist up.Dubious wrote:This OP is already in a state of deep entropy. There are too many reflections on what's random and hardly any on random reflections.
Re: Post a Random Reflection
It doesn't have to start from the waist up and there's no need to wonder. You can already see what it's like from the neck up.Harbal wrote:OK, I've got a random reflection: I wonder what it would be like to be paralysed from the waist up.Dubious wrote:This OP is already in a state of deep entropy. I hope this is a random reflection, I wouldn't like to think it is a deliberate attempt to cause offence.Dubious wrote: You can already see what it's like from the neck up.

I don't think Dubious meant to offend, that was just a bonus.Harbal wrote:I hope this is a random reflection, I wouldn't like to think it is a deliberate attempt to cause offence.Dubious wrote: You can already see what it's like from the neck up.
