No, it wasn't justified. No human should ever be made to go to war. It's the most basic of human rights. Let politicians and corporate giants fight their own shitty battles, and they won't find any shortage of volunteer psychopathic warmongers to do their dirty work.Gary Childress wrote:What about WWII, was the draft justified then? No, it wouldn't, and maybe the government should explain to prospective enlistees that the military will treat them like shit, and that's the reason they can't quit, even if they're ready to blow their fucking brains out.Gary Childress wrote:Wouldn't it reduce the readiness or effectiveness of the military if people could quit or refuse orders at will?bobevenson wrote:It's peacetime, and I'm a clerk-typist in the United States, so why shouldn't I be able to tell my boss to go fuck himself? Not quite, you didn't pay the black slaves, nor give them disability compensation, a pension, education and training, health care, home loans, life insurance, vocational rehabilitation and employment, and burial benefits.bobevenson wrote:The black slaves in America got three hots and a cot, just like U.S. servicemen do. ...

Please, black slaves were treated with dignity not afforded to soldiers. Oh, I forgot, even though you disdain the USA, and don't even pay any attention to it, you know more about this country than any American!Arising_uk wrote:Not quite, you didn't pay the black slaves, nor give them disability compensation, a pension, education and training, health care, home loans, life insurance, vocational rehabilitation and employment, and burial benefits.bobevenson wrote:The black slaves in America got three hots and a cot, just like U.S. servicemen do. ...

The US has reinvented slavery. Prison forced labour is a huge industry. No wonder the US has the most incarcerated population on the planet, and it's mostly black. Oh the irony of the 'home of the free'.

http://www.nationalww2museum.org/learn/ ... itary.html•38.8% (6,332,000) of U.S. servicemen and all servicewomen were volunteers
•61.2% (11,535,000) were draftees
Had there been no draft I wonder how many of us would now be members of the "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity sphere". If you think American Power is bad ask the people of Nanking in 1937 what it was like to be under Imperial Japanese rule. Or had the Soviets not conscripted their people would anything have stopped Nazi Germany from ruling the world? My understanding is that fascism was pretty horrible to live under. Ask the people of France what their rations were like under German occupation.

You just don't get it. NO ONE has the right to order ANYONE to kill people. Conscientious objectors have been persecuted and tortured. They are the only heroes of war as far as I'm concerned. Hmm, you had the draft for the Vietnam war. You lost that, just like you lose every war. I see you have been taken over by Asian 'commies' as a result.Gary Childress wrote: Had there been no draft I wonder how many of us would now be members of the "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity sphere".
