Panos

Post by Panos »

Hi everybody, it’s good to be back, I have good memories from this forum which was my first by the way. When I joined, I didn’t really find the time to introduce myself, so here it is now:

I am Panos, I live in Athens, Greece, I am married and I am the proud father of two kids, a son and a daughter. In actuality, my daughter is the reason why I vanished last time. A baby is in many ways a very demanding presence in a household and even though my wife and I had a pretty good training with our son, there were still a couple of lessons to be learned.

Parenting is the most difficult thing I have done in my life, which to some extent means that my life so far has been quite boring. I admit it, shooting pool and riding bikes does not amount to a charismatic, well qualified man and a big chunk of my life was misspent. Having said that, I have a first degree in Mathematics and an MSc in Operational Research – the best years of my life really.

I am basically interested in discussing, which is a surprisingly difficult thing to do, even through a forum where everybody has the advantage of time and distance on their side. In a forum, you have all the time in the world to think of your response and in addition you don’t get any negative interference from an aggressive tone, an insulting face or just the heat of the moment of a live discussion.

I am genuinely interested in parental philosophy – whatever that is – but I am not sure how to conduct it within Philosophy now. I am a member of a greek parents forum but everybody there is accusing me of being too theoretical – even though they failed to explain to me what they mean by this in numerous occasions. So here I am really, between two worlds: too philosophical for parents and too parental for philosophers? We’ll see.

Whoever engages with me into conversation, I thank him first of all and second I beg his patience as my time is limited and there are very few and short windows of opportunity within my day to write in the forum. I will write, there is no question about that, but it might take me a day or two or three :)

Panos

P.S. The signature is a present from a very special jap psychologist. Don't you just love it?

Welcome back, Panos!

Ha! This is a familiar experience for many of us, I think. It was raised by maryshelley, one of our newcomers here— viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1748" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . You may want to take a look.

It's good to be back Mick,

I followed the link you gave me, thanks for that. I thoroughly enjoyed it. As a matter of fact, I have a thing or two to say about "thinking too much" myself, but I am sure whatever I would say is already been said in that thread.

Welcome :-)

You are the living proof that not all Greeks are totally incompetent when it comes to English (like myself :P ), I'm impressed!

Since I am not interested in parental philosophy, probably we won't be exchanging any opinions. Nonetheless, I am really glad that another proud citizen of Athens (that was a joke, Πρωταπριλιά σήμερα  ) is a member of the forum.

Philosophy of parenting... interesting! As a Mom of two, I'd like to explore this philosophically. I'm in.

hi everyone, i am (an) ungrateful wretch haha, i'm from Montreal Canada and i just found this website. i'm a college student going into music but i love to talk, listen and think. i cant say that i'm very intelligent or experienced at this sort of thing or life for that matter, but i love to talk and think deeply and i find it difficult to find people to do it with who actually listen haha. i'm not a parent, so you'll have to excuse me if i make some basic ignorant mistakes sometimes but i'm still interested in the subject and i guess I'll learn haha.

Hi everybody,

Effie,

γειά σου!

That sounds really nice, I am flattered. I have put a lot of effort in learning to communicate in english so a comment like that definitely pushes my buttons :)

I have to say, my participation in this forum helped a lot so if you are interested in becoming proficient in english, you are on the right track!

Don't cross me over yet. I will not be discussing solely on parental matters. I have a wide range of interests

Rachel Ann,

I am glad you are in. I will give it a shot first chance I get. After all, I am a thinker (which is probably the reason why people accuse me of thinking too much) and as a thinker, I reflect on my reality. My household supports two babies of 1 and 2 years old. This, as you may know, is an exhausting and at the same time most fulfilling reality. Hence, I think on parental issues a lot lately.

UW,

Anybody who is willing to talk is thankfully accepted in an open discussion. This is not a high profile job where we screen people's resumes and dig out their experience. Just be ready to back up your line of reasoning :)
