Reexamination of prayer and worship

Is there a God? If so, what is She like?

Reexamination of prayer and worship

Post by Jaded Sage »

If idols are prayed to and worshiped, and alcohol is an idol, then we must reexamine what prayer and worship are, because nobody looks to them in a way that we would normally call prayer and worship. So what are they?

The post is philosophy. Prayer and worship are excessive glorification and exaltation. But there's more to it than that I think.

I doubt that anyone prays to alcohol. They may pray for it, but that's not the same thing. The word "worship", used to describe someone's liking for alcohol has different connotations to the same word applied to a person's attitude to, for example, God. I think you are falsely assuming the word to mean the same thing in both cases.

Dude, you just gave me the standard definitions after I demonstrated that there's a problem with the standard definitions.

I think it would be simpler and more accurate to just say there is a problem with the original post overall.

Don't say things like that. It's sound logic.

Phil of Religion isn't the place for you. Unless you're going to contribute something, I'm ignoring you. Good day.

That's gratitude for you. If it wasn't for me this topic would be completely inactive.

Technically, that's a different contribution. I actually prefer it inactive to this kind of numbskullery. I wish others knew that.

Prayer and Worship are just not worth examination.
