Me. Everybody hates a smartarse and there seems to be a lot of folk here who reckon you should just shoot people that piss you off.

Don't give up so easily, Leo. If it's any consolation, I like you well enough.Obvious Leo wrote:Me. Everybody hates a smartarse and there seems to be a lot of folk here who reckon you should just shoot people that piss you off.

Coming from a bloke who reckons the world would be a better place if I'd never been born I'm sure you'll understand that your gracious words are but a small consolation, mate. Nevertheless I thank you for them anyway.Dalek Prime wrote:Don't give up so easily, Leo. If it's any consolation, I like you well enough.Obvious Leo wrote:Me. I don't think that way of extants, Leo. Just people who don't exist yet, and don't need to.Obvious Leo wrote:Coming from a bloke who reckons the world would be a better place if I'd never been born I'm sure you'll understand that your gracious words are but a small consolation, mate. Your best chance is to stand next to me, I think I would tend to divert some of the fire.Obvious Leo wrote:Me. Everybody hates a smartarse and there seems to be a lot of folk here who reckon you should just shoot people that piss you off.

Re: What if?...
This is quite a congenial mental image, mate. You and I could stand to one side quaffing lager and offering sarcastic commentary until such time as we both get chucked into the lake. Now that I come to think of it this has largely been the story of my life.Harbal wrote:Your best chance is to stand next to me, I think I would tend to divert some of the fire.Obvious Leo wrote:Me. I prefer to think of myself as a person rather than an extant but your clarification is appreciated. How you can hold such a pejorative opinion about somebody who doesn't exist is an existential question way beyond my comprehension, as I've confessed to you before.Dalek Prime wrote:I don't think that way of extants, Leo. I think we'd be OK, Leo. You, me and one or two of the others who never seem to get many votes for most popular philosopher of the year would be more than a match for the rest.Obvious Leo wrote:

Indeed I'm rather grateful for the fact that burning heretics at the stake is no longer a fashionable way to deal with unpopular philosophers, Harbal, although many physicists still seem to be pining for the good old days in the vicious way they respond to my perfectly orthodox interpretation of pre-Socratic philosophy. If I'd been born a few centuries earlier I'm quite certain that they would have roasted me alive as I muttered in vain: Eppur si muove.

Re: What if?...
Pejorative opinion? I don't want them to exist because I care, not because I harbour a dislike. You really don't understand me or antinatalism, do you? It's not incomprehensible, you do realise?Obvious Leo wrote:This is quite a congenial mental image, mate. Re: What if?...
I understand what it is, and I can follow the logical grounding of it, but I don't understand how anybody could be attracted to it as a philosophy. My provisional diagnosis is that you were probably weaned too early. A bit longer on the tit and it might never have happened.Dalek Prime wrote: You really don't understand me or antinatalism, do you?
Re: What if?...
I seem to remember my wife going to antinatalism classes some years ago. If it was about the destruction of mankind she never said anything to me. she told me it was about having a safe pregnancy. It's funny how you can live with someone for years and they can still surprise you.Dalek Prime wrote:You really don't understand me or antinatalism, do you?

And you where dropped on your head. I'm attracted to.it because I understand the ethical implications of birth and creation, and how it's no different than signing someone up for Russian roulette.
