CRIMES of EMPIRE
Re: CRIMES of EMPIRE
Indigenous humans are beginning to have the same problem. For the same reason "others" don't want to come here, we want to leave and yet we keep on wondering why we can find any inter or intragalactic tourists.

Except maybe quarantine.
Except maybe quarantine.
Re: CRIMES of EMPIRE
In the "new world" imperialism was simply how things were done. Explorers would leave Europe, find new lands and colonise/invade them. Generally, the Spaniards and Portuguese were far more brutal and less transparent than the British.
Today China is working to subsume its small neighbours, as it's always done and will continue to do but the methods of the modern world have changed. The US empire was guilty of interfering with governments of numerous countries, and since 1944 they have bombed Afghanistan, Belgian Congo, Bosnia, Cambodia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Laos, Libya, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Serbia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Vietnam and Yemen. A number of these countries have been bombed by the US more than once.
You would be hard pressed to find a "nice" empire.

And still they wonder why so many nations of the world fear and distrust them.Greta wrote: The US empire was guilty of interfering with governments of numerous countries, and since 1944 they have bombed Afghanistan, Belgian Congo, Bosnia, Cambodia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Laos, Libya, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Serbia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Vietnam and Yemen. Haven't thought of that but makes total sense. For Them to come here is not unlike us wanting to visit North Korea.Skip wrote:[aliens wanting nothing to have nothing to do with this planet]

I'm still trying to work out why Bush, Blair and Howard aren't on trial for war crimes as was Slobodan Milosovich. What's the difference? They both decided to waste and displace a large number of Muslims out of self interest. By comparison, Milosovich was relatively harmless.

The US does not recognise the authority of the International Court to hear such cases and without Bush it would be very difficult to launch a successful prosecution. However there are plenty of renowned international jurists who reckon such a prosecution would probably succeed because the WMD argument was transparently and provably bogus.Greta wrote:Not the Dale Carnegie approach!Obvious Leo wrote:And still they wonder why so many nations of the world fear and distrust them.Greta wrote: The US empire was guilty of interfering with governments of numerous countries, and since 1944 they have bombed Afghanistan, Belgian Congo, Bosnia, Cambodia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Laos, Libya, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Serbia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Vietnam and Yemen. I still can't figure out why Warren Truss and Alexander Downer aren't rotting away in jail either. Both of them were in the AWB scandal up to their necks and colluded in palpably corrupt behaviour in violation of UN sanctions to which we were signatories. That incident should have brought the government down and yet it seemed to blow over very quickly.
