Agreed. Just more negativity bias - of which global communications seems to be having a multiplier effect. Conspiracies are worst case scenarios, promising a continuing threat (as opposed to the more benign screwup option).Obvious Leo wrote:Very likely right, I'd say. Some people manage to see conspiracies everywhere, Greta, but nine times out of ten either simple laziness or blatant incompetence is more than enough to account for most of humanity's stupidity.Greta wrote:Agreed. I'm reading a book about Venice - benign sort of subject, right?
As a one-page by-the-way, he mentions the unravelling, in 1982, of CIA-financed and organized secret group that had been operating in Italy and seven other European countries, since 1956. They carried out bombings, assassinations, smear campaigns and attempted at least two government takeovers by far right-wing parties.
I'm glad there are no real conspiracies, because now I know that the book about the Koch brothers I just got on my Kindle is fiction and safe to read at bedtime.

Ever heard of Aldo Moro? Why would a left wing group kill a left wing PM of Italy?Skip wrote:I'm reading a book about Venice - benign sort of subject, right?

Ask Henry Kissinger!
Re: boredom - is it bad?
Oh I disagree, conspiracy is where it's at. Speaking of which, does anyone actually know what "IT" is?
Re: boredom - is it bad?
"IT" refers to the person who must seek those who hide, or capture those who run.
"IT" is the essential point of a game, a challenge or project.
"IT" is the fulcrum of a change, the object of an obsession, the kernel of an idea.
"IT" is a monster under the bed, a golem, a nightmare.
"IT" is the sticking-point, the central issue, the incentive.
