Why is there a sixth commandment?

No one believes in it.

I have NEVER, in my life, heard someone openly say, I would not kill [this person] because of the sixth commandment.

We do understand the brutality of man-made law.

ALL of us, at one time have said, I would kill, [this bad person] if I had the chance.

We are violent. We are hateful. We are mean. We are stupid.

Wish it was different. Wish it was more romantic.

No, all of us haven't.

Hey, speak generally for yourself! :D
Bill Wiltrack wrote: Wish it was different. Wish it was more romantic.
I think it can be. Depends on where one focuses their energy, perhaps. There ARE lots of loving environments and loving people, but we have to first BE that which we wish to attract and attune to. And then in doing so going forward, we inspire the best in other people, who also inspire the best in us. (My guess is that all of the seeds are in all of us.) One of my favorite quotes (author unknown) is: "It's more important to be the right person than to find the right person.

I think genuinely loving is a state of mind... that requires/demands nothing. Starting with ourselves, we must compassionately set aside the egos we think we are here to protect. When we start attuning to a more loving vibration in general, I think we can see and accept a bigger picture, and ultimately love anyone. So that's a pretty romantic way of experiencing the world. And nothing external has to change! We discover how to love and treasure it the way it is. This potential is as real and possible as anything else we experience and choose.

There is truth in what you say.

Well written.

...oh, and when I speak, We are hateful. We are mean. We are stupid. I speak for ALL OF US. - Myself included.

None of us want to hear that. Very few of us are able to even begin to understand the depth of our vileness.

Why are you focusing on that idea? Why not focus on the incredible beauty and magnificence that pulses through us?

No (again). Why do you think that you can define reality for everyone else, Bill? You cannot. It seems like you're trying to justify that what you experience is normal for everyone... or that you're not alone... or that YOU KNOW "how it is"? I do not relate to most of what you do. When you referred to the depths of our vileness, I was simply trying to point out that your experience is created by how/where you focus your energy. If that's where YOU want to focus, great. Have fun with that! But your experience and your stuff is YOURS.

What I am saying is that YOU are vile. EXTREMELY vile.

YOU hate. YOU are mean. YOU are stupid.

AND I am also saying that you, like most of us, refuse to look at yourself in a clearer light...no, you are unable to look at yourself in a clear light.

Can you even begin to conceive how many animal have suffered & perished in order for you to fill your gut?

Do you care that slaves, human slaves made your clothing and most of the other trinkets and appliances that surround your life?

You how much your parents and others suffered just to raise you?

How many people have you offended with/without knowing it?

How many dreams have you crushed?

How often do you betray yourself? - betray others?

The accidental and intentional harm you have caused?

But now... NOW you are self-righteous. NOW you can only see the good that you perceive yourself to be.

You are selfish. And even the goodness that you invoke and aspire to - EVEN THAT you have stolen from someone else.

Tell me how good you are...- No, better yet - tell yourself. I am but tired of the likes of you...

No one believes in it.
Good Christians do apparently.

Still, the reason why many don't believe it is because it is a mistranslation, it should be murder not kill.
I have NEVER, in my life, heard someone openly say, I would not kill [this person] because of the sixth commandment.
What do they give as the reason not to kill a person?
We do understand the brutality of man-made law.
What is this supposed to mean?
ALL of us, at one time have said, I would kill, [this bad person] if I had the chance.
Does this make us a bad person, no. Unless of course you are a confused ex-theist(christian wing).
We are violent. We are hateful. We are mean. We are stupid.
We are also peaceful, lovable, nice and clever.
Wish it was different. Wish it was more romantic.
It is. At times it is.
As lacewing points out, you appear to only live in one-side of the world.

"The world of the happy man is a different one from that of the unhappy man. " L.W.

YOU are selfish. We are selfish. It's in our make-up.

Even when we are peaceful, lovable, nice and clever we are doing that for selfish, self-centered reasons.

I don't expect you to be able to admit this or even being able to begin understanding what I say here.

I've seen you in this forum throughout the years. Took me a while, in fact I'm still wrapping myself around the fact of how shallow you are.

Know you're well read and I see how little reading, and the intellectual function in general, is able to change a person if their intuition is not there...

One day, I hope you are able to feel something deeply...even though the shock that you must experience before that will necessarily need to be initially negative, I wish you the experience.

If it's not too late
for you.

See all this, this is an ex-theist not being able to shake his Catholicism. I think Rand made some good observations about 'selfishness'.

So you said but you ignore that we are also peaceful, loving, generous and clever.
I don't expect you to be able to admit this or even being able to begin understanding what I say here.
Oh I understand what you say here Bill, you are a miserabilist ex-theist gnu. I admit that at times I have behaved in this way but I've also behaved otherwise and in general mainly otherwise.
I've seen you in this forum throughout the years. Took me a while, in fact I'm still wrapping myself around the fact of how shallow you are.
You think what you do is deep?
Know you're well read and I see how little reading, and the intellectual function in general, is able to change a person if their intuition is not there...
Intuition about what Bill?

I have a full tool-kit to change when I wish Bill whereas you are still carrying your baggage around with you and because of this you wish to make all others in your model, gnu I name thee!
One day, I hope you are able to feel something deeply...even though the shock that you must experience before that will necessarily need to be initially negative, I wish you the experience.
You don't feel deeply Bill, you emote.
If it's not too late for you. [/size].
What, to become like you? Way to late for that Bill as I passed immature existential angst many moons ago.

Intuition is a characteristic of individuals.

It can be honed.

Intuition, a developed intuition, is a vital aspect of a real philosopher.

To understand what it means you have to look within.
