Jesus Christ, that surprises me. I thought for sure you were a goddamn European. Wait a minute, you're not even an American citizen, are you? Why don't you just pack up and go back to wherever you're from?Lacewing wrote:I live in the U.S., and even I don't believe you.)

Re: Congratulations to American Scientists!
Yes, I was born in the U.S. and have lived my whole life here so far (vacationing abroad only a few times). But unlike you, I don't consider that some sort of ridiculous notion of superiority over ANYONE ELSE on this planet. Really, Bob... what happened to you when you were a child? Were you locked in a closet with a flashlight, Bible, and loaf of bread?bobevenson wrote:Jesus Christ, that surprises me. I thought for sure you were a goddamn European. But you avoid calling yourself an American, huh? How pathetic!Lacewing wrote:Yes, I was born in the U.S. and have lived my whole life.bobevenson wrote:Jesus Christ, that surprises me. Why do I have to call myself anything and be hung up on labels like you?bobevenson wrote:But you avoid calling yourself an American, huh? How pathetic!

You said you live in the U.S. like you're some kind of fucking refugee. If you're an American, say it, don't keep us in the dark like you're ashamed of it, and if you are, why don't you just leave???Lacewing wrote:Why do I have to call myself anything and be hung up on labels like you?bobevenson wrote:But you avoid calling yourself an American, huh? Re: Congratulations to American Scientists!
I don't think anyone is in the dark except you. I'm not ashamed of being "American" except when I'm associated with the same nationality as you and other wackjobs that give the rest of us a bad name. I also don't see being an American as some source of pride to hold over other people. We're all human beings sharing and living on this planet. THAT is what is beautiful and significant. Why are you so intent on defining everyone based on boundaries? If you don't like people and this planet, why don't you just leave?bobevenson wrote:You said you live in the U.S. like you're some kind of fucking refugee. Because I'm a prophet.Lacewing wrote:Why don't you just leave?
Re: Congratulations to American Scientists!
Reverend Bob, I know you're a prophet and that, so I appreciate your sense of irony, because of course the Saturn V rocket, which took Americans to the moon, was designed under the direction of the Germans Werner von Braun and Arthur Rudolph. These two had been instrumental in the development of the V2 ballistic missile that Nazi Germany murdered us poor Londoners with 1945.bobevenson wrote:...when will another country reach the moon?
Interesting historical fact, for people who give a shit about such things: the Russians beat the US into space, (Sputnik, Laika, Yuri Gagarin-it's a fact reverend Bob) in part because, although the likes of von Braun and Rudolph had privileges from the Nazi party, in particular travel rights and cars, that meant they could flee westwards as the allies advanced, the technicians and factory workers, who actually built the rockets, were captured by the Red Army.

Agreed. I was being facetious. We all "stand on the shoulders of giants", as Isaac Newton said.thedoc wrote:Most science is a team effort, with contributions from all over.Dalek Prime wrote:Get over yourself, and yourselves.bobevenson wrote:WASHINGTON (AP) — In an announcement that electrified the world of astronomy, scientists said Thursday that they have finally detected gravitational waves, the ripples in the fabric of space-time that Einstein predicted a century ago.
Yeehaw! Yankee ingenuity!

I knew that, I just like seeing my name on the screen. Others seem to like seeing their nonsense in large bold print.Dalek Prime wrote:Agreed. I was being facetious. Again, when will another country catch up with us? I guess 47 years isn't long enough, huh?uwot wrote:Reverend Bob, I know you're a prophet and that, so I appreciate your sense of irony, because of course the Saturn V rocket, which took Americans to the moon, was designed under the direction of the Germans Werner von Braun and Arthur Rudolph. China, Japan, the European Union are all putting satellites in orbit, and sending probes to other bodies in the solar system, which is as much as the US is doing, so there isn't any "catching up" to do. If you didn't have your head up your A*s*s you would know this.

Again, dum-dum, when is another country going to put a man on the moon?thedoc wrote:China, Japan, the European Union are all putting satellites in orbit, and sending probes to other bodies in the solar system, which is as much as the US is doing, so there isn't any "catching up" to do.
Re: Congratulations to American Scientists!
When is the US going to put a man on the Moon, again, or any other body outside of close Earth orbit? A man on the Moon is a very poor litmus test, if it isn't repeated on a regular basis, and where is the colony on the Moon, or the research station? The point is that no country is doing any of those things, and the US hasn't done any of that for decades, I think the US has forgotten how, so there is no "catching up" to do.bobevenson wrote:Again, dum-dum, when is another country going to put a man on the moon?thedoc wrote:China, Japan, the European Union are all putting satellites in orbit, and sending probes to other bodies in the solar system, which is as much as the US is doing, so there isn't any "catching up" to do.
