You'll like this one, for sure.

Too bad they cut it short.

Ah, those were the days - before the music industry got smart and worked out how to be more efficient - just take the arty stuff out. The Old Grey Whistle Test and GTK were the best music shows around IMO and I died a few quiet deaths when Countdown took over the time slot :)

My favourite one is - Q: How do you know if it's a drummer at your door? A. The knocking speeds up.

Most people aren't too keen on drum solos. Me too - unless it's more musical and beautiful than showoffy, like this beautiful stuff by Herlin Riley of Wynton Marsalis's band, a low volume, subtle and musical drum solo in the tradition of the great Papa Jo Jones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFvgCtomkqE
Speaking as a drummer, I was always the most educated and smartest person in the band.
Lets face it, people that dig on musicians, do so because of their inability at timing and physical prowess. But it has been put forth over and over again, that the order of intellect from most to least, of the members of a standard rock band quartet, is lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass, & drums. But I see that as a bias related to the 'perceived' difficulty of playing those instruments, and/or the musicality of their solos, by those not really in the know with respect to instrument virtuosity. Take virtuoso Jazz musicians for instance, I don't care which instrument we speak of, I defy anyone to prove any intellectual superiority amongst them. Can anyone say, "complicated beyond most's abilities?" And yes, that's indicative of intellect, of both space and time! ;)

Nobody cared about any of this sort of shit back in my day. The only question of any importance was who pulled the best-looking birds and that was always the SINGERS.

I'm with you on this one Leo! The front man gets all the glory, usually despite his inability to do it all on his own.

Music, the unspoken language, that we all understand, on some 'mystical' level?

I've always seen it this way, "that band is only ever, that band." If any portion of a band can be deemed inconsequential, why is it that when a member is replaced the bands music is never quite the same? Of course it's true that one can either be added or removed to either make or break a band. Though it's never the individual, rather their synergy together, that causes such an effect!

Those fellas are certainly hard at it. Above and beyond the call, working OT. What’s with the guitar smashing meme that was popular for awhile, anyway? A conspicuous display of wealth? I can’t imagine B.B. doing that to Lucille.

Awesome! Before I viewed it I thought it might be those two boys from AGT last year. But it was much better that they could have pulled off.

These guys were great, although they cheated a little bit, they added at least a third cello, no doubt a loop of their previous bars. Notice how their bows took a major hit as soon as they started rockin'? If they keep that up, I pity the poor tailless horses.

Thanks that was nice!

That song is heartbreaks what’s left.
Yours reminded me of this one: Same Old Lang Syne - Dan Fogelberg

When it debuted I strongly identified with it. Not that we shared the same experience, but that I felt the emotion, and envied his story, knowing my situation would probably never bear the same fruit. Anyway, it's a great tune at any measure. Enjoy!

Lyrics:

Met my old lover in the grocery store
The snow was falling Christmas Eve
I stole behind her in the frozen foods
And I touched her on the sleeve

She didn't recognize the face at first
But then her eyes flew open wide
She went to hug me and she spilled her purse
And we laughed until we cried.

We took her groceries to the checkout stand
The food was totaled up and bagged
We stood there lost in our embarrassment
As the conversation dragged.

We went to have ourselves a drink or two
But couldn't find an open bar
We bought a six-pack at the liquor store
And we drank it in her car.

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how.

She said she'd married her an architect
Who kept her warm and safe and dry
She would have liked to say she loved the man
But she didn't like to lie.

I said the years had been a friend to her
And that her eyes were still as blue
But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw
Doubt or gratitude.

She said she saw me in the record stores
And that I must be doing well
I said the audience was heavenly
But the traveling was hell.

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how.

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to time
Reliving in our eloquence
Another 'auld lang syne'...

The beer was empty and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
She gave a kiss to me as I got out
And I watched her drive away.

Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain --
Thanks, Spheres, I had never heard this before. Beautiful all-round.

Here's a real classic rocker, with an awesome guitar hook, and while it's not the "Whistle Song," they do actually whistle in the song and yodel too. Some flute as well. But that guitar...Yeah!!

Sorry this one has no lyrics, it's all about the bad assed music!

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Hocus Pocus by Focus from their Moving Waves album.

Here's a live version that's almost double time, not quite, but you'll see what I mean and be thoroughly entertained by Thijs van Leer on Vox, Flute and Organ. He's a real character!

Thijs van Leer - Vox, Flute, Organ
Jan Akkerman - Guitar (-god!)
Bert Ruiter - Bass
Pierre van der Linden - Drums
