Can nature operate without a definite causal order?

How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

A recent experiment says yes:

Now the law of cause and effect specifically references certain orders to events
as they are not time reversible. Then the answer would therefore have to be no
For something cannot happen before the thing that actually causes it to happen
However somewhat interestingly most of the laws of physics are time reversible
