Does you mean laissez faire capitalism bobby? If so all that happens there is the wealth accumulates to the top, ossifies into monopolies who freeze out all competition because the market is no longer free.bobevenson wrote:There's only one form of free-market capitalism, it's called free-market capitalism.

Free-market capitalism implies that anybody can get into the marketplace to provide goods and services without being hampered by a government practicing crony capitalism. For example, if you have a car and want to start a taxicab business, you should not have to get an expensive permit dictated by the government in protection of other established taxicab interests. Things like that, which you may or may not fully understand.

What is it with you and taxi-cabs? Thwarted cab-driver are you? Someone stopped you in your fantasy of driving drunk and making money from it? Unike you bobby I appear to live in a more capitalist society than you as anyone can become a mini-cab driver over here but we also practice this social-cohesion that you yak about so we do insist you register and pay a fee to obtain a license that also requires one to be insured for carrying passengers and requires slightly stricter maintenance schedules, as this way we attempt to stop drunken uninsured yahoo's killing their passengers and running away. We're odd like that.bobevenson wrote:Free-market capitalism implies that anybody can get into the marketplace to provide goods and services without being hampered by a government practicing crony capitalism. Right, throw in a bunch of stupid regulations and conditions of doing business since the public at large is obviously too stupid to make its own decisions. Oh, I forgot, you're talking basic socialism, aren't you.

No bobby, I'm talking about government doing that thing you call social cohesion and providing the conditions for a free, fair and safe market to operate.bobevenson wrote:Right, throw in a bunch of stupid regulations and conditions of doing business since the public at large is obviously too stupid to make its own decisions. I don't believe I have ever used the word "cohesion," and what the hell is a "fair and safe market"?Arising_uk wrote:No bobby, I'm talking about government doing that thing you call social cohesion and providing the conditions for a free, fair and safe market to operate.bobevenson wrote:Right, throw in a bunch of stupid regulations and conditions of doing business since the public at large is obviously too stupid to make its own decisions. Thing though Bill, how do you reward those who discover and invent or entertain in sports and movies, e.g.? I favor a progressive tax system with no loopholes.Bill Wiltrack wrote:.

WHAT if America were to scrap all its anti-poverty programmes—welfare, food stamps, unemployment benefits, the works—and replace them with an unconditional basic income (UBI) for everybody? Even in a Congress beset by less extraordinary levels of dysfunction, the idea would have little chance of becoming law. It’s fun to theorise, though. And if Switzerland approves a referendum to send all of its citizens $2,800 a month, the debate will have a fascinating new reference point.
* The WORLD Needs This New SOCIAL SECURITY Program. Let's ALL be universal citizens in this new world-wide global economy.

What the hell are you even talking about? You apparently have a hard-on for people that discover, invent and entertain. I don't get it? What's your so-called "progressive" tax system and so-called "loopholes"?Philosophy Explorer wrote: How do you reward those who discover and invent or entertain in sports and movies, e.g.?
