Why the USA isn't the greatest nation on Earth
Because we're all on the same level. You human, I human, them humans. No one gets to choose where they're born. Most don't leave their home country. Every time I see President Obama on the tv going on about how the USA is the greatest nation of them all, I kinda lose hope. US presidents have been doing this all my life. They don't seem to say it because they actually mean it. It's basically an obligation to them. Like: If they didn't say it, people wouldn't vote for them...or impeach them. Reminds me of how they always say "God bless America"...it's all half-hearted.
So, I watch my half-hearted president blabber on about how great the US is and way too many people agree with him. It's always the kind of guy that would threaten my safety if I offered him a veggie burger rather than a half raw hamburger. What strikes me as odd is that American women seem to understand that supremical thinking is stupid, but lots of women are married to the half raw hamburger guys so they side with them. Whooo! America the better?
It's totally screwey because the news is saturated with Black people throwing fits about racism...and what is racism if not supremical thinking? The politicians publicly side with Blacks...as they should...generations of people treated like they were less...yet, we got a Black guy in office always boasting about how America is better than everyone else. Meh.
What irks me is that I know from my experiences in life that 99% of people that boast about how great they are at something aren't great at that something. They overcompensate because denial is better than facing the facts. If America was the greatest nation on Earth, American citizens/leaders wouldn't have to say it. Other countries would. We'd win awards. I mean: I don't follow politics as much as some people, but I've never seen an awards show for which country is the best.
Has it ever been a contest?
I'm all for loving your country. I know that it's not entirely ridiculous to say that you think your country is the best...but when you're the leader of a country that has Detroit, MI in it, you don't get to say you're the best. When your country has filthy rich and filthy homeless people in the same city, you aren't great. Prisons are overpopulated. The media is oversexualized and over-editorialized. Debt is ubiquitous. Those with body mods are denied jobs because of the way they look. Our music tv stations don't play music. Our radio stations play oversexualized, musically novice nonsense for children to hear. In my opinion, the USA has completely abandoned any moral obligation to raising children in any kind of psychologically healthful manner. Don't believe me, watch the news. The other night I watched a report where the journalist was going on and on about how unsafe shopping malls are and she was standing next to 3 young children.
American Feminism is leaderless. We've got women with all their cleavage out...yoga pants on leaving almost nothing to the imagination and it's considered sexual enlightenment. It's like they want to be considered sexual beings but not sex objects but beings are objects. And you can't just ask them to not dress like strippers. That would be rude. Who am I, as a man, to tell a woman anything? I get this weird vibe from women...they're so quick to jumping to the conclusion that a guy is a creep. That he's a potential rapist.
But what should I expect when there are many, many characters on tv that flat-out lie to women just to sleep with them...and it's considered funny. These shows win awards. Real awards. Not imaginary ones that prove that the USA is the greatest nation. Real awards...like the ones given to gangsta rappers that have made calling women bitches super popular. They idolize pimps. They hustle people out of money. They act like money and any kind of ostentation is the point of life. They've even convinced female artists to be avaricious sex junkies...and kids sing their songs.
Then, if you say anything, you're either considered racist or some crazy religionist. It's like: Having any kind of ethical maturity is taboo. Don't believe me? Watch the news. Journalists in America has absolutely no respect for the dead. None. If someone isn't dead locally, journalists will scour the country for a murder to report. Fact is: They don't know how to make good news entertaining. So, they scare everyone into thinking that the country and the rest of the world is far worse than it actually is.
Then, worst part: The media is unquestionable. Angry letters don't help. Pundits have begged major news corporations for years and years to stop being so misleading, insensitive, and unethical...and they don't listen.
US politicians don't speak for US citizens. They have absolutely no clue what an average American is. They surround themselves with the citizens that think they are above the laypeople. Politicians can't handle being on social media but 7 year olds can. Politicians upset me the most because these are the people that other countries see and think: "That's a typical American." American politicians get nothing done. Laws take forever to pass. Common sense issues that should be fixed overnight take months...years...decades.
There isn't a philosopher one holding public office in America.
I won't even go into how corrupt corporations are.
America is not the greatest nation because the line isn't vertical. We are a planet graphed on a horizontal line. Dots laid out. No country is above or below...we are side by side. Barack Obama doesn't understand this. I don't think there is a way to get that simple message to him. And, perhaps that's the thing that's most indicative of the truth that America isn't the greatest nation...the important things that need to be said aren't conveyable to the president. What truly matters will take too long to be known.

Re: Why the USA isn't the greatest nation on Earth
HA! Well, I agree with just about everything you said... and my own response is, it's so horrific and outrageous, it's laughable. It's certainly not unreasonable to run screaming into the woods laughing maniacally. I think Obama is doing the dance he must do. A lot of politicians probably had more clarity before they jumped into the snake pit. That sort of thing changes a person, you know? Whether it's the government... or a corporation... or any other situation that sucks your soul.
Like you, I don't like it when people make a big deal about America being the best. I think the arrogance and denial is disgusting. I never liked saying the pledge of allegiance... and I don't like the whole "in God we trust". I think of our "home" as being the entire planet with everyone on it. Fighting over land and fighting between nations or groups seems absurd. I blame men for most of the madness (including religion).
I think they should all take a long "time-out"! Be man-servants for the women... focus on being helpful and pleasing... and wear cute little loin cloths.
But, no... this is who we are... for whatever reasons... and we've become rather insane. I try to appreciate the "creative quality" of it all... I rationalize it by asking, "Well, what ELSE would infinite energy do, but create and explore EVERY possibility?"... and I try to love what I can.

Bob, if the USA is the greatest, then why do you want to change it?

Bob did you even read the OP? In the OP the poster said all are equal, that none are greater.bobevenson wrote:The USA is not the greatest nation on Earth? Name me a single country that's greater!

I tend to agree with TheBlitheringOne (TBO) as well. No human or group of humans are necessarily better than any other, at least when considering their potential. The problem is that leaders try and maintain control, and it's much easier to do that if they use propaganda. And it has been practiced since at least the beginning of the 1900's here in the USA. Quantify greatest, best, etc. You can't! It's actually simply a matter of perspective, and the problem is that everyone has a slightly different one, for a variety of reasons, ignorance, denial, low self esteem, etc!

The OP, of course, is an idiot. Since the entire world revolves around the USA, we're the greatest, and everybody knows it, but since jealousy runs rampant, everybody likes to take potshots at us.SpheresOfBalance wrote:Bob did you even read the OP? The OP is in fact a US citizen, or so TBO eludes.bobevenson wrote:The OP, of course, is an idiot. Quantify Greatest, Bob! Such that it's universal of course!
Re: Why the USA isn't the greatest nation on Earth
There you go, Bob, throwing everything into one pot... no distinction, no balance... just a big ol' pot of obsessive extremism and ignorant spew. And I notice that whatever YOU are associated with, is "special" and "the best". When did you develop this tendency of classifying things... when you were a child?bobevenson wrote:Since the entire world revolves around the USA, we're the greatest, and everybody knows it

And what were Neil Armstrong's first words? "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for MANKIND!" Neil had it right, which is why he said it as he did, but then he actually had an education, Bob!bobevenson wrote:Let's see, many years ago, we landed on the moon. Anybody else done that? Re: Why the USA isn't the greatest nation on Earth
Police officers at a Florida middle school carried out an active shooter drill in an effort to educate students about how to respond in the event of an actual shooting crisis. Two armed officers, guns loaded and drawn, burst into classrooms, terrorizing the students and placing the school into lockdown mode. What is particularly chilling is how effective these lessons in compliance are in indoctrinating young people to accept their role in the police state, either as criminals or prison guards. If these exercises are intended to instill fear and compliance into young people, they’re working. - See more at: http://www.intrepidreport.com/archives/ ... er7fe.dpuf

You don't have to explain this
No one but Americans has ever suggested it.
