~ Function as Meaning ~

Post by Bill Wiltrack »

I long ago gave-up on words; On words providing an ultimate meaning overall to life.

Words can point us. Words are very effective at focusing us but words alone cannot contain any overall meaningful meaning to life & why we are here.

Passed through a horrific time in my life over the past few months.

Distilled to observe that function and use are a philosophy. A way of life. A fulfillment of sorts.

Function, movement is beyond words.

I like the idea that we are not here just to talk. But then what is the proper place of words? Isn't it reasonable discourse as you have suggested? So we are here to converse, not to chitchat. The reason I say that is because we are the only species to have spoken language. Surely, then, it must be part of our highest function as we are the highest beings. For instance, sex cannot be the function of human beings in particular, only of sexually reproducing beings in general, because sex is something that a large majority of living things partake in. Along this rationale, the only true problem I can find is commerce. To my knowledge, there are no other species that buy and sell or trade things, but I could be mistaken (apes began prostituting themselves when introduced to the concept of money, but we are looking for instances of it without human interference). What is unique to humans must be part of the distinctly human function.

This is a vast subject thread that could be approached from many different perspectives.

I like what you stated here, how you stated it, and I agree with your perspective.

Mankind has been blessed/cursed with an extremely developed a intellectual function, the quickly developing ability for self consciousness and the ever present opposable thumbs.

Man is god.

He hasn't been very functional in that respect...especially when he uses the first two functions to screw himself up with or...is that the opposable thumbs function?
