Can we get matter from light?

How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

We have the Einstein equation, so why not?

Doesn't light matter already? C'mon, you didn't anticipate my answer?

Dalek, have you actually EVER said anything intelligent in your life?

Well, well, well. Look at what has reared its ugly little head here. It's Hex baby. Don't you know this is the Lounge area, Hex baby, where you don't have to do philosophy. I guess being at the library has got you all confused. Why don't you go to the children's area and play with all the other children, retard?

You wreck your own threads, Phil, when you even bother to acknowledge the existence of such a fuckwit. Just ignore him like everybody else does and with any luck he'll eventually just go away. By the way I agree with the general opinion that most of the topics you introduce are simply a vexatious waste of time but this is not one of them.

The ability to turn light into matter has been mandated by theoretical physics for over a century and if this were to be achieved in a controlled laboratory situation it would represent a significant breakthrough, because it means that a high-energy laser collider would be a scientific instrument well worth building and one which would be a hell of a lot cheaper to construct than the LHC at CERN was. I'd be fascinated to see if light of different wavelengths could be manipulated to produce totally new and hitherto unimagined different kinds of particles. QED would seem to suggest that it in principle it could be and that in fact the zoo of potential sub-atomic particles may in fact be a staggeringly large number if not indeed theoretically infinite. All that would then need to be determined is whether this actually means anything.

I would just settle for that device from Star Trek that can make food appear (I don't know what they call that device).

Regarding Hex I have a saying that shit sticks around unless you wipe it away (the only way that disease-minded individual would disappear is if he couldn't access the internet).

This article says in the headline that scientists just made molecules from photons. I have doubts about it from the way the article is worded (and it doesn't give a breakdown of the molecules in terms of atoms). Maybe more articles will clarify:

It's a case of mind over matter, you don't mind and PhilX does not matter. Just trying to enlighten the thread!

What's the matter Hex? You don't know how to spell derailing either? The library computer doesn't have a spellchecker? Looking at that mirror again and calling yourself names. Hey has anyone ever heard Hex say that any person was intelligent? I find it amusing when Hex makes a complete asshole out of himself or a loser. Maybe AMod will change his mind one day and ban or suspend Hex for being such a retarded, naughty boy just like Scott did. Hex the compulsive liar. What shall this slithering snake do next?
