On the other hand he might just be a nice bloke. The article itself doesn't say but I'd be willing to bet a sizable sum that he doesn't believe in god. It certainly doesn't seem like the actions of a theist.hazlett wrote: that man know and understand the word of God.

Yes we can! Yes we can!! As long as we're only campaigning and THE PEOPLE are too stupid to understand the difference between a campaign promise and its implementation.Dalek Prime wrote: I have a theory that there is something inherently wrong with people who seek office; people who think they have all the answers, and can solve all the problems.
What would campaigns be like if promises MUST be kept upon being elected or impeached as a liar if you don't. Would there be anyone applying for the job?

He is the one who is not acting stupid, the problem is that most people can't tell when someone is not acting stupid.

If you tell a bloke not to touch the wall because the paint is still wet the wise man will believe you and not touch it.
The fool will test this for himself, get paint on his hands, and force you to repair the damage he caused.
If you tell a bloke that the entire universe was the creation of a single being the fool will believe you without question.
The wise man will say "show him to me".

And what do you say about the man who has not believed without question, and who has seen some evidence, (no matter how slight) that God exists.Obvious Leo wrote: If you tell a bloke that the entire universe was the creation of a single being the fool will believe you without question.

I would say that whatever that stuff is you should keep smoking it.thedoc wrote: And what do you say about the man who has not believed without question, and who has seen some evidence, (no matter how slight) that God exists.

And I would say that you should cling to your delusions, and let me keep mine. I readily acknowledge that what I witnessed was just for those present, and not for anyone else. If I'm smoking anything, God is providing it to me without my knowledge.Obvious Leo wrote:I would say that whatever that stuff is you should keep smoking it.thedoc wrote: And what do you say about the man who has not believed without question, and who has seen some evidence, (no matter how slight) that God exists.

Don't get me wrong, doc, I would never begrudge a man his delusions because I still reckon the Bulldogs have got a half-decent chance of winning the premiership this year. The last time they did this was in 1954 so I'm no stranger to the notion of improbability.
Re: How Do You Spot a Wise Man in a Crowd?
You will need to forgive me not knowing which team you are referring to. But when I looked up "Bulldogs" I found everything from youth teams to semi-pro, and there were a lot. So enlighten me and I'll cheer for them right along with you, half heartedly at best.Obvious Leo wrote:Don't get me wrong, doc, I would never begrudge a man his delusions because I still reckon the Bulldogs have got a half-decent chance of winning the premiership this year. The Bulldogs are the sons of the west, mate, the representatives of the oppressed underclass in Australian football, the greatest game in the entire world. How the hell is your country ever going to achieve world dominance without taking the Bulldogs into your reckoning? We shall rise like a Phoenix from the ashes and smite our foes asunder. We shall slay all who stand in our path and there will be much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth,.

Yes, but first the Bulldogs will need to find their way out of the outback and into the civilized world, Boomerangs won't cut it.Obvious Leo wrote:The Bulldogs are the sons of the west, mate, the representatives of the oppressed underclass in Australian football, the greatest game in the entire world. What does an Australian call a boomerang that doesn't come back?

I'm old, what do you expect?

I think u'r conclusion is waaaayyyy off, if had given up on society he wouldn't donate to it, as in donating to a shelter, which would benefit the many, and not only himself.Gary Childress wrote:In what is perhaps my own romanticism I sort of imagine him giving up on society as if to say to us all that we're all nothing more than fools. Is he perhaps a modern day Diogenes?
