I think it's an old (?ish ?diaspora) Jewish custom as well. I wonder how many cultures have that tradition and whether it originated from the same point. Not going to research it, tempting though that diversion from the task at hand may be. Will set it aside as idle thought #12,883.

The default mind-set of a believer from the cradle to the grave is DOUBT and most of them are continuously tormented by it so to believers death is most terrifying of all possible prospects. I really do pity them, but I'll happily drink their booze after they cark it.

Though humorous i very much disagree with your statement. Perhaps i haven't attended as many funerals, but i can't say i noticed any distinction between believers\non-believers. My grandfather was and is the only man from whom's departure that i still can draw a tear even as i type this...and as i stated on another thread, i was informed prior to his cremation that "he is risen"

After the preacher had left and i was alone with my Nan, i told her what i knew about God, about my sage, and what had been stated to me re Gramps. I spoke far more sense than the priest,(who spoke the usual bollocks how we would all be hanging out together in heaven soon) and for days later my aunties approached me thanking me for 'whatever' talk i had with their mother as she was deeply moved.

I know about the hair and fingernails still appearing to grow after death but I didn't know you could still get it up.

If anyone could, my Gramps would be the man. As far as im aware my grandparents never stopped bonking like rabbits. I remember sneaking up the stairs as a nipper expecting to give them a surprise, unfortunately it was me that was surprised as they were both in their birthday suits walking from the bathroom.
