This is an absolute outrage, Bob, and somebody is going to have to put a stop to this sort of nonsense. I'm certain you're just the man for the job of setting the world to rights because it makes no sense whatsoever to require scientists to comply with the law.

There seems to be a glaring flaw in your "logic", Bob. In your OP you state that the scientist in question was sentenced to imprisonment by the judiciary, as is right and proper in a society which respects the rule of law. Are you now suggesting that the government should have intervened to prevent this from occurring? If so then what do you understand by the term "totalitarian state"?

Civilised countries don't execute their own citizens, Bob, so I'm certainly not advocating that. However in most countries fraud is unlawful for sound sociological and economic reasons.
