Except in the case of Wall St banks. They get to drive the entire world into insolvency and then leave it up to the public sector to pick up the tab.bobevenson wrote:Let me try to explain the economics to you. The reason government and other nonprofit organizations are unfit to provide any product or service is that they do not face the discipline of the marketplace. When private companies do a poor job, they are the ones who ultimately suffer by not turning a profit or going bankrupt. When government and other nonprofit organizations do a poor job, nothing happens, they just keep going on and on and on. Can't you understand this?mickthinks wrote:"Government enterprise is bad because it's not private enterprise" is a silly circular argument.

If banks are doing something wrong, it is the government's job to take any necessary action to prevent reoccurrences. The government should not pick up anybody's tab.

A noble ideal in the best of all possible worlds but it assumes that governments control the economy, which is a myth in a free-market world.bobevenson wrote: The government should not pick up anybody's tab.

It's the government's responsibility to see that life and property are properly protected, and to neutralize criminal activity, but it should have nothing to do with the economy per se. That is the function of a free market.

Jurisprudence Needs to be Turned Over on Its Head
Judiciary trials should not be conducted like a sporting event with winners and losers, prosecutors versus the defense, with the jury voting on the winner. Jurors should only be neutrally presented with evidence for and against the defendant, and their decision rendered on this and this alone, not on the theatrics of the prosecution and the defense.

Yes, as usual your thread, like your other posts are a confused collection of contradictory bullshit statements, meaning nothing.bobevenson wrote:Got anything to say about the subject of this thread, idiot?Hobbes' Choice wrote:Bob Eveningsong needs to be turned over on his head and dropped from a great height.

Note to moderator: If this jerk has a comment or is confused about something, I'll be happy to address it, but nobody should have to put up with this kind of thread vandalism.

You bring a smile to my face every morning, Bob. Your appeal to moderator intervention in your defence is solid gold material for a wordsmith in search of comedic opportunity. Keep up the good work.

I think the funniest thing is the phrase "thread vandalism", as if this qualified as a thread. Surely a thread needs more than one person rating to himself?Obvious Leo wrote:You bring a smile to my face every morning, Bob. Why don't you guys just go jack off until the moderator closes the thread due to your desecration. But remember, it takes two to tango, and I haven't started dancing yet.

It's not actually necessary for you to use the big bold type to get people's attention, Bob. All you actually need to do is say something interesting. You may find this suggestion personally challenging but confronting personal challenges is the meaning of life, the universe and everything. Why not give it a try? Why not try and say something interesting?

a) I've addressed the font issue on a number of occasions to a number of people.
b) Since I'm a divinely inspired prophet of all things spiritual, political and economic, anything I utter should be of interest to anybody but a curmudgeon like yourself.

You've uncovered my deepest secret, Bob, because indeed I am a miserable old curmudgeon. We Aussies take in cynicism with our mothers milk and it just becomes more and more pronounced as we age. However it plays to our advantage in the long run because we become very adept at differentiating the real prophets from the not-so-real cage-rattlers and general shit-stirrers. I'm on to you, mate.
