Pope Francis seeking to unite faith and reason

Post by Philosophy Explorer »

Do you think he will succeed? Do you want him to succeed?

It's not the first time a pope made the attempt. Pope John Paul II made the attempt with Fides et Ratio in 1998. In any event, I am unaware of any reason why it should be thought faith and reason are incompatible.

He's not uniting reason and faith, or science and religion. All he wants to do is persuade people to do the right thing for the wrong reason. Nothing new about the attempt - but it's never actually worked.
