Most people who believe this have a conservative, Hobbesian, libertarian ideology. I.e. because people are selfish, we must come up with means to keep others in check. It is the opposite of the cooperative, liberal, socialistic ideology that you usually endorse. Libertarians don't believe that such liberal systems can work as they would necessitate changing human nature itself.

No moral law can teach that.

Read some Philosophy, pretty much every Ethic starts from something like this base, not surprising that you do as well as its your Catholic upbringing.

To the poster that used labels to define my position I must say those labels are not appropriate.


We do have mirror neurons and they account for some empathy however, overall, we are extremely selfish, mean, and stupid.
