Okay, I shouldn't call it an allergy, but after so many years of enjoying the stuff, I started becoming acutely ill every time I used it, so I gave it up in my twenties.Hobbes' Choice wrote: No one is allergic to pot. Have you tried eating it in a cookie?

Profuse sweating, going off-colour with nausea, leading to vomiting, and even a racing heart.

I'm hoping that my study of lambda calculus, and knowledge of Lisp will help me understand it, should I get to PM.Hobbes' Choice wrote: Depends what you read. Russell wrote nearly 100 books, many which he called his "pot boilers" were very friendly and accessible to the general public for whom they are designed. Then there is the heavy stuff: Principia Mathematica is not for the feint hearted.

I suspect that, BR's aim to bring logic and mathematics together was something of a disappointment.Dalek Prime wrote:I'm hoping that my study of lambda calculus, and knowledge of Lisp will help me understand it, should I get to PM.Hobbes' Choice wrote: Depends what you read. How so? If it led to Church's lambda calculus, and, in my estimation, one of the oldest yet still the most elegant programming languages still in use, I'd say it was a success.

Nope. That's what I thought at first, but it was a continuous thing, no matter where I got it, and they were reliable sources.Hobbes' Choice wrote:Sounds like you got some bad shit there!Dalek Prime wrote:Profuse sweating, going off-colour with nausea, leading to vomiting, and even a racing heart.

Of course you do realise, Dalek, that less is more in the case of dope and a lot of the hydroponically grown stuff being produced on a commercial scale uses cultivars which have taken the cannabis gene pool into unknown directions. I'm just an occasional user but I've got a mate who grows a couple of plants in his garden every year and just gives it away to close friends, which was pretty much how it used to be back in the good old days of my mis-spent youth on the fringes of the counter-culture. I reckon dope and commerce is a bad mix.Dalek Prime wrote:Nope. That's what I hought at first, but it was a continuous thing, no matter where I got it, and they were reliable sources.
Having said that it's distinctly possible that you have developed an allergy to THC. It's rare but it's not unheard of and it seems to be down to an acquired negative feedback and sympathetic auto-immune response. I know a bit about this stuff because I originally trained as a biochemist and I've always kept up with the medical literature. Also both my wife and son are medical professionals so the mysteries of the human body have always been common topics of conversation around our household. Many people with allergies have allergies to a number of things and this can often give a clue as to approximately which metabolic pathways are being sent haywire and why. Do you have other allergies?

None. That's the weird thing. I developed lactose intolerance for other reasons, but that's a lack of lactase, not an allergy.
Hydro wasn't around when I was smoking the stuff.

In that case you have my sympathy because you're not just a snow-munching Canuck. You're a MUTANT snow-munching Canuck. Move to a more hospitable climate.Dalek Prime wrote:None. That's the weird thing. I developed lactose intolerance for other reasons, but that's a lack of lactase, not an allergy.

I best send off my membership renewal to the X-Men soon. Appreciate the reminder.

Enjoy your eucalyptus breakfast, Leo! Or would that be a vegemite sandwich? And don't let any funnel spiders bite you on the bum, while you're in the loo.

Re: What is qualia?
Only the koala eat eucalyptus leaves, mate, and it keeps them stoned all day long. I get them on my property and they even look stoned. I don't get the funnel-web spiders here because it's too cold for them but I get a few other nasties as well as plenty of snakes. Aussie living is not for the faint-hearted because we have more man-killing critters here than the rest of the world combined. It tends to give us all a rather cynical take on life and teaches us not to take things too seriously because any tick of the clock it could all be over. Shit happens, as the young folk are fond of saying.

Re: What is qualia?
When I was younger, I considered moving to Australia, then realized just how many dangerous things you have down there, including funnel spiders. That cured me, and I've happily munched snow ever since.
I'll admit I like eucalyptus in my cough drops lol!

Re: What is qualia?
I'm a migrant myself and at first found the hazards quite confronting, but I quickly got used to them. With ordinary common sense you can steer clear of the snakes and spiders, and in any event their bites are almost never fatal nowadays. However I never go near any water where there might be sharks or crocodiles about. The idea of having my limbs separated from my torso is unappealing.
