This ad hominem argument states what Nietzsche believed: one's philosophy is usually determined not by the pursuit of truth but according to one's taste. Nietzsche is very much alive today and considered by many the greatest including me.
Re: Nietzsche: 150 Not Out
Then O wise one, please share your great wisdom, where does we find such perpetual relevance that he has bestowed upon society?van Keister wrote:This ad hominem argument states what Nietzsche believed: one's philosophy is usually determined not by the pursuit of truth but according to one's taste. I know that we still uses and have always used A2 + B2 = C2, that E = MC2, that we still uses philosophy such as "the cure must not be worse than the illness", etc, yet I am devoid of knowledge where Nietzsche has any modern relevance.
Please! Please enlighten me!

Existentialism, Will to Power, aristocratic virtues, evolutionary drives to something better than human, on and on--Nietzsche is a philosopher for the strong willed, future men. I take it you haven't read much of Nietzsche.

What Nietzsche wrote on these topics are useless and outdated.van Keister wrote:Existentialism, Will to Power, aristocratic virtues, evolutionary drives to something better than human, on and on--Nietzsche is a philosopher for the strong willed, future men. 'Is', not 'are'. And, yes, it was already outdated when he wrote it!HexHammer wrote:What Nietzsche wrote on these topics are useless and outdated.van Keister wrote:Existentialism, Will to Power, aristocratic virtues, evolutionary drives to something better than human, on and on--Nietzsche is a philosopher for the strong willed, future men. Let's try and be reasonable people and give our very Nietz' loving fan a chance to reason. Shall we?Melchior wrote:'Is', not 'are'. Least he could try to say where all the topics that he mentioned, are used, try to reason how they are used in our modern society, we all know that those equations of "A2 + B2 = C2", "E = MC2", etc are used each day all day in architecture and nuclear warheads just to take some well known examples.

Re: Nietzsche: 150 Not Out
Okay. Nietzsche is instrumental not only as a philosopher but literature and even anthropology. Nietzsche and Audrey (African Genesis) follow similar lines: man evolved through aggression, weapon maker, overcomer. In literature, Also Sprach Zaranthustra is a German masterpiece as he has inspired great writers, FB Yeats for one. But in philosophy Nietzsche speaks, not for ivory tower philosophers of German Idealism, but for human potential and growth. He is for the strong. His message is we either work to surpass humanity by continuing to evolve into something greater or we become extinct by evolving into "human sand." If you believe in man and evolution then Nietzsche speaks for you. Besides being the father of Existentialism, Nietzsche is probably the greatest philosopher who ever lived and needs no defence. Until you have read his works especially Die Wille zur Macht.

It's Der Wille zur Macht. And that is not a 'work', but a collection of drafts and notes assembled after his death.van Keister wrote:Okay. Sorry to challenge you but Kierkegaard seems to actually be the father of Existentialism.van Keister wrote:Okay. Both are considered to be while D is on the right and N is on the left.
