Is the Devil the antithesis of God?

Is there a God? If so, what is She like?

Is the Devil the antithesis of God?

Post by Philosophy Explorer »

I'm not just speaking in dichotomy terms. It seems that all the bad in our world (universe?) necessitates that a Devil exists, otherwise we'd be blaming God for everything. Here's a question that closely ties in: if you believe in the Devil, does He/She have free will?

I am more inclined to believe that the devil is an agent of God's will, and I don't see the problem with giving God the credit for everything that happens. Good and bad are human assessments and don't really apply to God. One way to put a little perspective on it, is to try to understand what God's purpose really is, is it more important to live well here on Earth, or is it more important to be saved in Heaven after death? If you can determine what is more important to God, it might help to understand why things happen the way they do here on Earth. And no, I don't know the answer to that question, but I am leaning toward the idea that Heaven is the priority. Given all that, when someone dies, isn't it a good thing, from God's perspective, that they are saved in Heaven, no matter what has happened here on Earth?

It reminds me of a comment at an atheist's funeral, "All dressed up, and no-where to go."

The antithesis? Not necessarily. There are after all politicians and celebs who think they are God but behave like the devil.
And yes, like thedoc I also have a feeling that God may have a stranglehold business contract or a political blackmail agreement with Satan. Photos and videos of the devil pushing banknotes in an offertory-box, something like that. And Satan waits patiently for the day when he gets the chance to reverse that.
Serious: Modern believers tend to accept the idea that God is everywhere and in everything. If the same applies to Satan, I hope they will move out of everything and everywhere when they decide to have their apocalyptic scuffle.
