I look forward to 3D printing as this technology changes the way we live our daily lives.

I don't think 3D printing by itself will bring a utopia to human existence.

** Just a note - technology & subsequent social medium is exposing and destroying the hidden hand of capitalism, which is profit.

Profit is the lifeblood of capitalism. Socialism emerges through capitalism as capitalism matures.


In other words capitalism morphs into socialism. It is a natural process.

The only good that can come from post-scarcity: folks get to spread out, move on and off.

It won't happen cuz the powers that be (today and tomorrow) can't have any one slippin' the noose.

To let even one walk is to acknowledge that the powers that be aren't needed.

No friggin' way will the elected/appointed/*wannabes/etc. ever admit to such a thing.

Gimme a Santa Claus Machine and what the hell do I need with governors, government, or (most of) you?

So: post-scarcity will always be just 'round the corner, just over the horizon (not cuz it ain't possible but only cuz there are a whole lotta folks who can't bear the idea of not havin' their fuckin' fingers in other people’s pies).

I think you're being disingenuous.

But: I'll try again.

In this thread you promoted the idea of a new economy, one founded on 'reputation'.

You've also promoted new technologies like 3D printing.

Being communitarian, you see such an economy and such technologies as a means for society to perfect itself, for the union of mankind to perfect itself.

I believe it irks and confuses you to know some folks would take technologies like 3D printing (and the various nano-tech that'll follow) to become more independent of their fellows instead (as you hope) enter into greater communion with them.

I believe folks like you will do just about anything to stop folks like me from trundling off on our own.

The Santa Claus Machine I mentioned up-thread: a possibility, perhaps even a probability, that folks like you will never allow cuz -- again -- if I have a SCM then what do I need with the greater society and those who 'guide' the greater society?

Its kinda like Atlas Shrugged, if the rest of humanity (besides the ones who left) capture the heroes of the novel and force them at gunpoint to come back. Of course, I don't remember the end of that book, so maybe that is what happened?

Don't waste your time with Atlas Shrugged. Written by a phony. I like to call it a 1169 page door stop.

The book is honestly worthless. It could have been condensed into a 20 page read.

THE NEW CURRENCY will be derived from social consciousness, social worth, social media bringing us together...not pulling us apart.

THE NEW CURRENCY is already in use and is growing in appreciation and understanding.

Will the old currencies of dollars & cents still exist? - Of course they will.
