A sign of yank illiteracy. An 'ass' is a donkey, or colloquially a stupid person. It's quite useful, but the stupid yanks were unable to tell the difference between a donkey and buttocks, so the word has been all but lost to the language. Well-educated Americans use the correct spelling, which is 'arse'. 'Arse-hole' refers to a human male who behaves obnoxiously. 'Ass' is a completely different kind of person, and should never have 'hole' added to it because it means nothing.

Bullshit. I've read many books by American authors and seen them use correct spelling. The only reason you spell it 'ass' is because of your stupid accent. Imagine if the Scots did the same thing; spelling to match their accent lol.
The point is, an 'ass' is a donkey, you moron. When you call someone an 'ass' it has a completely different meaning from if you called them an 'arse'-hole. They are TWO different words!
