Is DST worth it?

Started in Germany during WWI, the biggest reason offered for it is energy. But there doesn't seem to be much evidence behind this reason. There are plenty of pros and cons to daylight savings time.

Is it really worth the bother?

Some people with outdoor interests (shared activities with friends, family in the evening) like it. Otherwise, six of one and half a dozen of the other, apart from the nuisance it imposes upon the majority. Governments seem hell-bent on justifying the energy argument with their own particular brand of statistics / data interpretation, regardless.
