I am just wondering what would happen if I were walking along a mountain track and tripped over a large rock; dislodging it. Unfortunately a person walking below is struck by the rock and killed. "Thou shall not kill, period", appears to be violated.

I appreciate all the vigorous responses to this thread and I always personally appreciate the kind words.

But I feel I need to reign-in the vigor a bit...even if this action kills this thread.

PLEASE re-visit the original post.

Realize that what I am saying is that, if your government kills on your behalf...isn't that just as if you conduct the action of killing another human being yourself?...and who among us considers themselves a christian?

Thou shalt not kill.

The 6th commandment.

Pretty simple and straight forward.

Have you ever killed someone?

Has the government that represents you ever killed someone on your behalf?

Are you a christian?

Do you believe in hell?

Are we in hell?

I guess it is pretty straight forward. My stumbling along a mountain track, resulting in a rock falling in very unfortunate circumstances has resulted in me committing a sin.

Just to clarify, I think it is obvious, accident differs from murder in that one is supposed to be intentional, the other, not so much.

Thou shalt not kill is the quote.

Whether you consider it to be an accident out of your control or determined, more as if you are the actual murderer - the phrase Thou shalt not kill still exists. And the Bible states that we will all atone to these commandments.

No. The quote is ִֿתְּר ָצח לֹא . Now, if you'd like to share how that equates to "Thou shalt not kill" in the sense in which you've used it, I'm sure we're all ears.

I think you have been greatly influenced by the Islamic Religion. I myself have had a strong Roman Catholic upbringing and my studies have often taken me back to the Roman Catholic traditions.

Islam teaches that the Bible is a revelation from God but the text used in Judaism and Christianity has been corrupted. The Ten Commandments are not explicitly mentioned in the Qur'an but each is implied by the following verses in the Quran.

"There is no other god beside God."(Qur'an 47:19)

"My Lord, make this a peaceful land, and protect me and my children from worshiping idols." (Qur'an 14:35)

"Do not subject God's name to your casual swearing, that you may appear righteous, pious, or to get credibility among the people." (Qur'an 2:224)

"O you who believe, when the Congregational Prayer (Salat Al-Jumu`ah) is announced on Friday, you shall hasten to the commemoration of GOD, and drop all business." (Qur'an 62:9)

"....and your parents shall be honored. As long as one or both of them live, you shall never say to them, "Uff" (the slightest gesture of annoyance), nor shall you shout at them; you shall treat them amicably." (Qur'an 17:23)

"....anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people." (5:32)

"You shall not commit adultery; it is a gross sin, and an evil behavior." (Qur'an 17:32)

"The thief, male or female, you shall mark their hands as a punishment for their crime, and to serve as an example from God. God is Almighty, Most Wise." (Qur'an 5:38)

"Do not withhold any testimony by concealing what you had witnessed. Anyone who withholds a testimony is sinful at heart." (Qur'an 2:283)

"And do not want what we bestowed upon any other people. Such are temporary ornaments of this life, whereby we put them to the test. What your Lord provides for you is far better, and everlasting." (Qur'an 20:131)

...as I stated earlier within this important thread, use whichever word you feel comfortable with kill or murder. The choice between these two words is really unimportant here. Read deeper. Think deeper, meditate more upon what I originally stated, if that is possible for you.

Use me as a guide or teacher, which is what many others do here.

Sure Buddha was a very intelligent, but not this all knowing being, if he was oh so wise, why didn't he prohibit led in incent? Why did he get so overly obese, everybody today know that obesity is very unhealthy. So yearh, he knew a lot but not everything!

Hex really don't go changing The Siddartha Guatama also known as the Buddha was never obese- as is shown in the many statues of him, when correctly depicted, he, is very thin. What you are mistaking for Buddha is the Bodai a representation of prosperity in Chinese culture not the Buddha, a common Western misunderstanding of the Buddha.

I love how though you opined, even though you know nothing about Buddhism, I mean I know a bit, but it's nice to see someone really walk all over other peoples culture like a jack booted man who is blind and half drunk.

I think being obese is unhealthy, no one would disagree with that, but was fairly rare in the past, hence a fat man depicting prosperity, abundance and decadence.
