A Philosophy of Mind

Is the mind the same as the body? What is consciousness? Can machines have it?

[quote="Barbara Brooks"]Philosophers are lovers of knowledge. The spectator of all time is the philosopher harmoniously constituted, just and gentle even in youth.

BOLLOCKS !

1983 I began writing philosophy not for the likes of anybody but me,

So why are you writing it here ?

and for anyone else traveling the same path.

There is no path it is an overgrown field of weeds and shit.

In order to understand philosophy its very complex ideas, I started a journal and called them ‘the weeping wall’.

We are weeping here reading the shit.

Well anyway, they were very helpful to me for releasing my obstacles in learning philosophy.

Your obstacle is the meat between your ears.

You do not know jack shit about philosophy. All you do is produce
disjointed sentences loosely fitting together and punctuated by
absurd diversions into non associated subjects.

Why don't you get a life and stop churning out this crap.

Reason is regulated by words and self-control such of things about beauty, harmony, grace, and good rhythm they depend on a ordered mind. Thus moral actions is our work our grace and harmony as effective instrument of the mind, because rhythm and harmony find their way imparting grace, and good when reason comes we will recognize and salute it.

The true nature of the beauty and grace; and good is in everything that flow, like a gentle wind from a purer region, into likeness with reason.

Socrates believed just as learning to read, be everywhere eager to make words known. Only when we know the letters exactly can we ever become musical and know the essential forms of temperance, courage, liberality, magnificence, and their kindred when a beautiful mind harmonizes with the fairest of sights to the philosopher who has an eye to see it.

The fairest is also the loveliest they have the spirit of harmony. Ethics pathway of consciousness pressing forward to true knowledge and clearness of spiritual complete experience of self arrives at the knowledge of self.

Good afternoon, Ms. Mousky,

Please forgive me for assuming your sex -- my Wiki link at the end explains.

Women have never needed to be discouraged from philosophising, even if they might talk too much at home. I don’t think there has ever been a formal programme to suppress them. Wealthy Romans seem to have encouraged it in their wives: Pliny openly commended his wife’s involvement, and Cornelia, Agrippina, and Sulpicia were all well-known authoresses. If they’d wanted to, women down the ages have often been free to wax eloquent -- especially the wealthy ones.

Shopping, on the other hand, now that’s an entirely different matter -- as Mrs. ArtisticSolution mentions on my ‘Introduce Yourself’ thread. A large majority of shopaholics are female. In 1998 I attended a paper “Self-Imaging: it’s in the bag”, presented by Dr. Helga Dittmar, of the University of Sussex. She made it clear this was a serious illness, almost exclusively afflicting women. Yet can we do anything about it? Modern man’s response has been to mimic women, rather than criticise or help them, in the hopes that the problem will go away. Controlling women is a lot harder than you think.

My hero Cato the Elder (see ‘Great Quotations’) tried to put a legal limit on the spending of housewives around 200 BC, but it all came to nought. The women invaded the capital en masse, shanghaied senators in their own homes, and forced the senate to back down. Such was the power of women, even in those days.

So how could it ever be possible to suppress women’s philosophising, when we could not even control how much money they spent two thousand years ago?! I think it is simply a myth -- one propagated to prevent any serious thinking on the subject. This is a pity, for rich picking are to be had, as soon as we distinguish between male and female philosophies -- for it means that we can seriously start to explore the depths of each.

Socrates believed that God being everywhere and traverses the whole heaven appears perfect and fully winged soars upward, and orders the whole world, whereas we humans lose our wings droop in flight because of our ignorance.

The mind the greatest of God’s blessings, a thing, which is moved from without, is mindless; but that which is moved from within has a mind.

Knowledge to the rescue gives way to calculation, measure, and weight. In addition, this surely is the rational principle in the soul. The better part of human being is likely to be that which trusts to measure and calculate. The great elevating effect that compels the mind to reason about things is mathematics. It may truly be called necessary for the use of knowledge and truth. Mathematics is a kind of knowledge in which the best learners should be trained and which they must never give up. Second as necessary is geometry because it compels mind to view the vision of the idea of good, look at the full perfection of being and which everyone ought to behold, not in a narrow squaring, extending, and applying but with the mind for the sake of reason.

Amod,

You are defeating your purpiose the more people read your tyrannical stupidity they want to read what I write about philosohy of mind.

The real problem here is you and the administration let Straw dog get away with not explaining what Metaphysics really means instead you let him reduce it to a shamful situation. I am starting to see your impairment Amod, it is ignorance. By the way how bout you telling the forum what is metaphysics?
